Generals Head to Emory for Regional Action
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- The NCAA announced
the bracket for the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Team
Tournament on Monday afternoon. Washington and Lee University
received one of 15 byes into the second round as the Generals will
make the trip to Atlanta and Emory University for regional play
next weekend.
The 2012 field features 49 teams with 38 earning their place via
automatic qualification. At-large bids were divvied out to
three Pool "B" (independent) and eight Pool "C" (general at-large)
squads. Tournament participants will begin play on Friday,
May 11, in seven six-team regional pods. The remaining
regional, a grouping of seven schools, opens competition on
Thursday, May 10.

Washington and Lee (19-5), ranked third in the Atlantic South
Region and seventh in the country by the Intercollegiate Tennis
Association (ITA), will be joined by five other programs in
regional play, including host Emory (15-5) as the top-rated team in
the Atlantic South and fifth in NCAA Division III. The
Eagles, who earned a first round by like the Generals, will meet
either Agnes Scott College (15-3) or regionally 10th-ranked
Methodist University (21-3) in the second round on Saturday.
W&L will be pitted against Ohio Northern University (22-4),
which is ranked 14th in the Central Region, or Transylvania
University (11-1) in round two. The second round winners play
on Sunday for a spot in the final eight, which begins on Monday,
May 21 and concludes with the national championship on Wednesday,
May 23 at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.
