Generals Fly Past Sewanee in NCAA Women's Tennis Second Round

ATLANTA, Ga. --- The 19th-ranked Washington and Lee women's tennis team advanced to the third round of the 2014 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships after posting a 5-0 win over the 20th-ranked Sewanee on Saturday morning at the Woodruff Physical Education Center on the Emory University campus in Atlanta, Georgia.

The Generals improved to 18-2 overall on the year, while Sewanee closed out its season with a record of 21-4. The contest was a rematch of last year's second-round match, which the Tigers won by a 5-4 score. The two teams also met earlier in the 2014 regular season, as Washington and Lee came away with a 7-2 win.

The Generals dropped just two points in sweeping all three doubles matches to enter the singles round with a 3-0 advantage. W&L then won at No. 4 and 6 singles to claim the 5-0 victory.

First-year Brooke Donnelly (Kennesaw, Ga. / Marietta) led the Generals with two wins on the day. She won at No. 3 doubles, 8-1, with senior captain Claire Cahill (Austin, Texas / Lake Travis), and went on to take down Taylor Tepper, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 4 singles.

Washington and Lee will take on either top-ranked Emory or Berry, on Sunday at 1:00 PM for third round action.
