Lynchburg Tabs Christopher Clarke as Director of Tennis

LYNCHBURG, Va. --- Director of Athletics Jon Waters announced today the appointment of  Christopher Clarke as the  new Director of Tennis for the Lynchburg Hornets. " Chris has had a wide variety of tennis experiences and will be a great mentor and coach for our tennis programs as they continue to build on the successes of last year and the hard work that they have put in this fall. " said Waters. Clarke, a PTR Certified Professional, will begin immediately.

"I look forward to assisting in the development of the teams goals for greatness," said Clarke on taking charge of the Lynchburg Tennis programs.

Clarke, a Cum Laude graduate of University of Maryland-Eastern Shore, played #1 Singles and Doubles for the Hawks Tennis team while also serving as an assistant coach and captain during his playing career at UMES.

Following his time as a Hawk, Clarke joined the South East Tennis & Learning Facility where he was the assistant coach to Nicholas Askew, helping the center became the #1 center in the District of Columbia.

Relocating to Florida, Clarke found a job with Twin Lakes Racquet Club, in Daytona Beach Florida. While in the Sunshine State, he honed his court understanding and became a better player and coach through observation of the nationally trained players. Returning home, Christopher started teaching at East Potomac Tennis Center where he began working with juniors on his own and began building top notch players and further developing his understanding on how to train a player not only physically, but mentally.

Clarke's most recent employment was with Mount Vernon Athletic Club where he served as a coach and mentor for the Blue Chip Tennis Academy.

Both the Men's and Women's teams kick-off the Spring season with a trip down to Methodist for a 1:00 p.m. matchup with the Monarchs.
