Ragsdale Selected to Lead Hollins Tennis

ROANOKE, Va. --- Daniel Ragsdale has been named the new head tennis coach at Hollins University. The announcement came from new Director of Athletics Chris Kilcoyne after a search to fill the position.

"I am delighted to welcome Daniel back to the Roanoke Valley." Kilcoyne said on the hiring, "Daniel is a proven program builder who emphasizes student-athlete success on the court, in the classroom and most importantly, life."

Ragsdale led the Roanoke College women's tennis program for seven seasons. After taking over a program that finished runner-up in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) in 2013. In just his first season, the Maroons got the season started with an 8-0 run, the best record to start a season in program history.  It was also the best start by any Roanoke College head coach in their first year at the helm. That team made it to the ODAC Championship and repeated that feat again in 2015. During his tenure in Salem, Ragsdale posted over 80 wins, 50 in ODAC play, while finishing runner-up twice and leading numerous All-ODAC performers.

Ragsdale came to the Roanoke Valley Head Tennis Pro at Roanoke Country Club, a position he held from 2011-2015. Ragsdale is certified under the United States Professional Tennis Association, USPTR and the ITPA as a tennis performance trainer.

Prior to arriving in Roanoke, Ragsdale was a Tennis Professional at River Hills Club of Jackson, Mississippi from 2001-2008.  During that period, he was a member of the Belhaven University Tennis team ('02-'05), where he was the #1 doubles and #2 singles player.  Before Belhaven, Ragsdale played at Wallace State Community College, where he was a two-year starter and NJCAA Regional Doubles Champion.

Daniel and his wife Stephanie are moving back to the Roanoke Valley after spending a couple of years back in Mississippi.
