Yellow Jackets and Generals Rated Third and Sixth
FOREST, Va. --- The NCAA released its first set
of regional rankings for the fall team sports (except football) on
Wednesday with the ODAC earning solid representation
throughout. In volleyball, Randolph-Macon College (16-5
overall, 7-0 in the ODAC) sits third in the South Region, with
Washington and Lee University (19-7, 7-1) in sixth position.
NCAA Division III volleyball is comprised of eight regions across
the nation with the top eight schools ranked in each
list. Emory University currently owns the top spot in the
region with Christopher Newport University holding the second
position. Southwestern University (Texas) and Hardin-Simmons
University (Texas) separate R-MC from W&L in the fourth and
fifth slots, respectively. The University of Texas at Dallas
and Maryville College (Tenn.) round out the group in seventh and
eighth, respectively.
New rankings will be determined each week through the end of
conference tournament action. The rankings compiled through
the NCAA Division III Volleyball Committee aid in determining
at-large bids into the NCAA postseason tournament.
Randolph-Macon also received votes towards the latest national
poll by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).
The Yellow Jackets received 10 points toward the national
survey, putting them seven places outside the top-25.
Washington University in St. Louis heads the national listing
with a 24-2 overall record and 582 poll points.
