Randolph-Macon Volleyball Advances to National Quarterfinals

GALLOWAY, N.J. --- Seniors Courtney Lowers (Suffolk, Va. / Nansemond River) andKatie Rossberg (Crozet, Va. / Western Albemarle) tallied 17 and 16 kills, respectively, as the Randolph-Macon women's volleyball team defeated Stockton 3-0 Sunday afternoon in the Galloway Regional Final of the NCAA Tournament to advance to the quarterfinals for the first time in school history.

Lowers broke her own single-season record for kills, now with 494 kills. She also owns the school record for career kills with 1,455 winners.

Rossberg has 359 kills this season, the seventh highest total in program history. She is also ninth on the R-MC All-Time list with 1,040 career kills.

The Yellow Jackets (28-7) won the first set 25-19, took the second set 25-12 and claimed the victory with a 25-19 win in the third set.

R-MC opened the first set with a 3-0 lead. The Ospreys (32-5) tied the score at 3-3 and again at 4-4 before gaining the advantage and extended their lead to as many as four points before the Yellow Jackets tied the set at 13-all. R-MC won the set with a 12-6 spurt.

The score was tied at 3-3 before the Yellow Jackets grabbed the lead with a 6-3 spurt to hold a 9-6 advantage. The Ospreys pulled within two points at 10-8. R-MC scored 15 of the last 19 points to take a 2-0 lead in the match with a 25-12 win in the second set.

The Yellow Jackets started the third set with a 2-0 advantage and held the lead for the entire set. R-MC expanded their lead to six points at 14-8. The Ospreys cut their deficit to 19-16 before the Yellow Jackets compiled a 6-3 run to win the third set and sweep the host of the Galloway Regional.

Sophomore Erin Quinn (Morrisville, N.C. / Cardinal Gibbons) recorded 19 assists and senior Riley Martin(Crozet, Va. / Western Albemarle) added 16 assists.

Quinn has 680 assists in 2015, the eighth highest total in program history. She is tenth on the R-MC career list with 1,145 assists.

Martin has moved to fifth on the R-MC career list with 1,934 assists.

Sophomore Samantha Sallade (Newport News, Va. / Peninsula Catholic) paced R-MC with nine digs.

Sallade is the single-season leader with 595 digs. She is eighth on the career list with 1,063 digs.

R-MC held a 16-0 advantage in blocks. Lowers led the team with six assisted blocks followed by sophomore Colleen Beaver (Fredericksburg, Va. / Massaponax) with five assisted blocks.

Beaver is sixth on the single-season list with 133 blocks. Lowers is eighth on the R-MC Career list with 249 blocks.

Lowers was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Galloway Regional. Rossberg and Sallade received All-Tournament Team honors. Other recipients included: Lindsay Schuele and Stephanie Kovacs of Stockton, Rikki Schlager of Eastern, and Abby McIntyre of Christopher Newport.

The remainder of the NCAA Tournament will be held in Grand Rapids, MI on the campus of Calvin College. Randolph-Macon will play Carthage (34-7) on Thursday, Nov. 19. The semifinals will be played on Fri., Nov. 20 with the championship on Saturday, Nov. 21.
