Flynn, a senior from Lynchburg, Virginia, made his 2009 cross country season debut in fine fashion as he won the Brown division of the Paul Short Invitational by five seconds. Flynn posted a time of 24:43 in the 8K event as he outpaced the rest of 322-person field that consisted of teams and competitors from Division I and II schools in addition to other DIII competitors. He finished just four seconds shy of tying the LC all-time record. and his time shatters the previous 2009 season-best time in the ODAC of 26:03.
Men's Cross Country Honor Roll
Richy Bikko, Eastern Mennonite University, Junior
Bikko out-paced the field on a challenging 8k course at
the Royals Invitational. The junior actually ran an extra 150
meters after being misdirected on one turn, and still finished in
28:44, nearly two minutes ahead of second-place teammate Cody
Stutzman at 30:33.
Sean Whitson, Virginia Wesleyan College, Sophomore
Whitson continued to improve his 8K time, leading the
Marlins to a 9th place finish in the Division I-dominated Great
American XC Festival hosted by NC State University. Whitson
placed 32nd in the field of 125 runners with a season-best time of
25:58. His effort helped VWC to place in front of several DI
teams, including Longwood University and the University of Miami.
