VWC Advances to Championship Game

LYNCHBURG, Va. --- Second-seeded Virginia Wesleyan snapped a 2-2 tie with a run in the sixth and added a pair of insurance runs in the eighth to defeat third-seeded Randolph-Macon 5-3 in an elimination game Sunday afternoon in the 2015 ODAC Baseball Tournament at City Stadium.

The game began on Saturday and was suspended in the middle of the eighth with the Marlins (18-13) holding a 3-2 advantage over the Yellow Jackets (24-9). VWC advances to face top-seeded Shenandoah for the conference crown.

After the Marlins scored single runs in the first and third, the 19th-ranked Yellow Jackets responded with a pair in the top of the fourth. Junior Nick Maiolo had a leadoff single to center to start the rally. Freshman Cole Migliorini reached on a bunt single and both runners advanced on an error. Junior Mitchell Keeler delivered a two-run single to left to level the score at 2-2.

VWC took a 3-2 lead in the sixth and added two in the eighth.

Keeler had a leadoff single in the ninth for R-MC and moved to second on a walk to sophomore Stuart Brown. After Keeler advanced to third on a double play, sophomore Jay Patti had a pinch-hit single to drive in Keeler. A groundout ended the contest for the R-MC.

Keeler went 2 for 4 with a run and two RBI. Freshman Rick Spiers  had two hits for the Yellow Jackets.
