ASHLAND, Va. --- Carrie Jacobs scored off a
rebound just under one minute into overtime as Randolph-Macon
College defeated Bridgewater College, 2-1, in the ODAC
Semifinals Thursday afternoon. The women will travel to
Lynchburg to battle for the conference championship on Sunday.
The Yellow Jackets improved to 10-9 overall on the season, while BC
finishes the year with a record of 11-8.
Bridgewater struck first, taking a 1-0 lead when Taylor Prillaman
scored off a Caroline Augsburger assist in the 11th
minute. R-MC responded, tying the game seven minutes later
when Carrie Jacobs' shot slipped past the Eagles' goalie.
The two teams battled for the rest of the half, but the game
entered intermission tied at 1-1.
Bridgewater controlled the second half, registering 10 shots on
goal, but R-MC senior goalkeeper Nicole Woodworth stopped every
one. With a scoreless 35 minutes of play, both teams prepared for
overtime.
One minute and eleven seconds into overtime, Jacobs found the back
of the cage for the second time off her own rebound to push R-MC to
the ODAC Championship match.
Woodworth picked up her 10th victory and recorded 14
saves to give her a conference-best 220 on the season. Jessica
Balsano took the loss in goal for the Eagles, blocking two shots in
the contest.
Jacobs scored her 12th goal of the season and leads the team with
30 points on the year. She is also ranked fourth in to ODAC in
goals and fifth in points.
Woodworth tops the ODAC in total saves and save percentage with
.856. She is ranked fifth in the nation in save percentage and
ninth in saves per game with 11.58.
R-MC returns to the ODAC title game for a rematch from the 2011
conference championship with Lynchburg on Sunday. The game
will be played at Lynchburg for the third straight year.
