HU's Estes Leads by Two Over R-MC's Bowling
CAPE CHARLES, Va. --- Hollins University
owns a one stroke advantage over Randolph-Macon College after the
first round of the inaugural ODAC Women's Golf Championship at Bay
Creek Resort & Club in Cape Charles, Va. HU posted a 369,
while the Yellow Jackets chimed in at 370 following a rain-soaked
day on the 5,801-yard par 73 custom layout on the Palmer Course.
Washington and Lee University is third at 402.
Freshman Shelby Estes handled the elements the best, posting an
opening round 85 (+12) to sit two strokes ahead of Randolph-Macon
freshman Olivia Bowling (87). HU junior Elizabeth Cheng, who
entered the tournament as the ODAC's average leader at 78.7, carded
a 16-over 89, tied with Eastern Mennonite University freshman
Brittany McDonaldson for third.
Estes and Cheng were joined by freshman Sydney Patrick and junior
Gabby Rader as HU's scoring four. Patrick registered a 96 to
sit 11th, while Rader turned in a 99 to place 13th.
Randolph-Macon saw freshman Rebecca Ream take sole possession of
fifth place after a 91, while sophomore Danielle Calhoun is tied
for eighth at 95 with W&L freshman Sara Moir and Bridgewater
College freshman Andrea Walker. The Generals' Rachael Wright
and the Eagles' Marin Warring are sixth after opening at 94.
Second round action is set to begin at 8:05 a.m. on Tuesday
morning with the first of six scheduled tee times throughout the
