Event Starts Friday, Hosted by Lynchburg
FOREST, Va. --- The 2011 Men’s and
Women’s ODAC Indoor Track Championship Meet will be hosted by
Lynchburg College this Friday, February 25, in Lynchburg, Virginia
at Liberty University’s Tolsma Center. Field
events begin at 1:00 p.m. with the first track events taking place
at 4:00 p.m.
Lynchburg College took home its 13th-straight
men’s conference crown in 2010, scoring over 100 points
higher than the second place team, Bridgewater College. The
2010 ODAC Track Athlete of the Meet, James Bell, headlines
LC’s contingent after winning last season’s high jump
(6’6.75”) and pole vault (15’5.0”).
This year, Bell has qualified provisionally for NCAA’s in the
high jump (6’8.25”) and the pole vault
(15’9”). Bridgewater’s Jacob Kroko, returns to
the Eagle’s mix after garnering ODAC Rookie of the Year
accolades a season ago. Kroko won the shot put with a heave
of 47’3.75” last year and he has the second best toss
of 46’11” in 2011.
On the women’s side, Roanoke won the ODAC title a year ago,
after narrowly edging out second place squad, Lynchburg, by two
points. The Maroons will be without the services of
All-American Robin Yerkes, who graduated after a stellar collegiate
career. Several other athletes return including Carmen
Graves, who won the triple jump in 2010 with a leap of
36’5.00”. She owns the top m this year in the
800-meter run (2:20.25). Lynchburg returns LaCear Hubbard,
who placed in four events last year. Hubbard won the long
jump (18’2.50”), placed third in the triple jump
(36’3.50”), finished fifth in the 55-meter dash (7.54)
and seventh in the high jump (4’9.75”). This
season, she owns the top mark in the long jump
(17’4.25”) and she has the second-best time in the
55-meter dash (7.55).
