Hornets Headed Back to Title Game

Renfro Scores Twice to Send LC into Cross-Town Matchup with Randolph

HARRISONBURG, Va. --- Senior forward Ryan Renfro made his first two goals of the season count Wednesday evening as the sixth-seeded Lynchburg College men's soccer team upset #2 Eastern Mennonite University 2-1 in an ODAC Tournament semifinal matchup.

Renfro scored at the 15:32 mark of the first half on an unassisted tally as he worked his way through the Royal defense. The Hornets held the 1-0 lead until 20 minutes had expired in the second half. EMU's Philip Yoder scored on a Mark Mast pass that hit the bar and went in to tie the score. Renfro netted the game-winner on a 4-on-2 break two minutes later at 66:48 from Thomas Moran and the LC defense made the lead stand up.

Sophomore keeper Michael Releford made two saves to preserve the victory, his 10thpost-season win in his young career. The Hornets only had two shots on net, both resulted in goals.

EMU (10-8-2) held an 11-10 edge in shots and a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Hornets (7-8-4) will have a short trip Saturday as the ODAC Title game will be hosted by #3 Randolph College. A game-time has yet to be determined, as LC looks to capture its third-straight conference crown and return to the NCAA Tournament.
