Top-Ranked Generals Lead ODAC Men's Soccer Tournament Field

FOREST, Va. --- Men's soccer is the first ODAC fall tournament field announced since 2019 with the completion of the conference regular season. Washington and Lee University secured the top position in the ODAC's eight-team postseason event with its eighth league win on Tuesday night.

The Generals, currently the top-ranked team in NCAA Division III by the United Soccer Coaches, are joined in the top-four by three other squads that earned their seedings with wins on Tuesday. The University of Lynchburg sits second, while Randolph-Macon College and Randolph College join the Generals and Hornets as hosts for the upcoming quarterfinals as the #3 and #4 seeds, respectively.

The 2021 tournament will be played under a new format with the conference moving away from the final four structure from years past. The quarterfinals will be hosted by the top four seeds on Saturday, October 30. The four winners will take part in the semifinals in normal bracket progression on Wednesday, November 3. The highest remaining seed will host the championship on Saturday, November 6. All game times will be announced later this week.

Roanoke College also helped itself out on Tuesday night with the Maroons posting a 4-1 result over Guilford to move into fifth position. They will travel to Randolph on Saturday. Virginia Wesleyan enters postseason play as the sixth seed following its loss to W&L. The Marlins head to Randolph-Macon for the quarterfinals. Shenandoah University ends the night where it started as the seventh positioned team in the standings. It will be a Hornets-Hornets quarterfinal with SU taking a trip south to Lynchburg.

The field's final team was in the balance until Hampden-Sydney College scored in double-overtime for a 1-0 win at Eastern Mennonite University. The Tigers' win earns them the eighth seed and a bus ride to W&L in the quarterfinals.
