Lynchburg Men, Roanoke Women Capture ODAC Track Titles

W&L's Tallman, BC's Kubisiak Named Athletes of the Meet

SALEM, Va. --- Lynchburg College and Roanoke College added to their ODAC record number of outdoor track & field titles as the Hornet men and Maroon women corralled the 2014 ODAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship team crowns.  The 162 points accumulated by LC translated into its 28th conference title, while the 150.33 tallies gathered by RC secured a 10th league championship.  Full team point standings are below.

Washington and Lee University's Zander Tallman and Kaylee Kubisiak from Bridgewater College highlight the individual honors as the duo were named the ODAC Men's and Women's Athletes of the Meet.  First year LC coach Zach Haupt enjoys his second ODAC men's top coaching honor after taking home the accolade from the indoor season, while Roanoke's Finn Pincus picked up his seventh women's outdoor laurel and 18th overall best coaching award.

Bridgewater's Darin Council was tabbed as the ODAC men's rookie of the year, while RC's Caitlin Ashley and W&L's Dana Lee share the women's rookie award.  The Maroons Cory Meadows earned the men's ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete award, and the Generals' Annelise Madison earned her third scholar-athlete honor of the season, adding this accolade to the recognition she earned for cross country and indoor track.

Kubisiak, also a standout on the Eagles' cross country team, won both women's long distance races.  She captured the 10,000-meter crown on Friday, out-pacing the field with a time of 39:25.90.  She came back on Saturday with a time of 18:10.77 to win the 5,000-meter run.

Tallman accounted for one of five ODAC records set on the competition's final day, joining teammate Kevin Sullivan, Virginia Wesleyan College sprinter Randy Lott and Eastern Mennonite University runner Hannah Chappell-Dick as new standard bearers.  Tallman won the 400-meter dash with a time of 47.66 seconds, setting a new conference championship record.  Tallman also won the 800-meter run in 1:55.84, and helped the Generals to titles in the 4x100-meter (42.13) and 4x400-meter (3:20.66) relays.  He added a fourth place showing in the 200-meter dash (22.22) to his award-winning performance.

Lott made noise on day one by setting a new ODAC meet record in the 200-meter dash preliminaries with a time of 21.55, snapping Tallman's 2012 standard by 0.01 seconds.  In the finals, Lott out-sprinted the field to a title in 21.58 seconds.  On Saturday, he bettered his preliminary time in the 100-meter dash to win the event in 10.62 seconds, setting a new meet record by 0.1 seconds.

Sullivan took to the javelin to write his name in two places in the ODAC record books.  His throw of 63.76 meters not only set a new ODAC championship record, but it took over the lead position in the conference's overall listings.

Chappell-Dick won two events with one of those causing movement in the record books.  Her first performance of the day came in the 1,500-meter run where she set a new ODAC meet record in 4:38.61.  Her mark matches the best time in the conference this season by W&L's Madison.  Chappell-Dick later added the 800-meter title to her résumé, finishing in 2:18.31.

The final record went to Roanoke's 4x400-meter relay team.  The squad of Alexis Janney, Alease Kinney, Brynn MacDougall and Jessica Mejia etched their names in ODAC history with a time of 3:57.51, snapping the Maroons' previous league record of 3:58.71 set in 2012.

Lynchburg's men won five events and placed in the top-five in several others on the way to its team crown.  Thrower Greg Wilson accounted for three wins as he matched his 2013 triple with victories in the shot put (14.98m), discus (45.26m) and hammer (53.58m).  Rachad Davis, who was denied a fourth straight 110-meter hurdles title, didn't let the 400-meter hurdles slip away as won that event for the fourth straight season with a time of 54.65 seconds.  Brian O'Dea accounted for the Hornets' final first place finish as he topped the field in the pole vault (4.41m).

On the women's side, Roanoke claimed five events in addition the 4x400-meter relay.  Kinney took home the 400-meter dash (56.96) title and played a part in both relay wins.  The 4x100-meter team of Janney, Kinney, Esther Prempeh and Mejia stopped the watches in 48.27 seconds.  Ashley claimed her first career ODAC win in 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:52.1.  The final two victories came in the throws as Samantha Clowser won the hammer (47.86m) and Mary Kelly claimed the javelin (37.60m).
