Bridgewater, Roanoke Hoist ODAC Track Trophies

RC's Toney, W&L's Lee Named Athletes of the Meet

BRIDGEWATER, Va. --- Bridgewater College made good on its bid in one repeat opportunity, adding the men's team title at the 2015 ODAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships to its crown indoors.  The victory is the eighth outdoors for the Eagles.  Roanoke College locked up its ODAC record 11th women's championship, the Maroons' fourth outdoor trophy.

Maroons' distance runner Harrison Toney and Washington and Lee University sprinter and jumper Dana Lee took the ODAC Athlete of the Meet honors in a vote of the league's head coaches.  Bridgewater's Shane Stevens and Eastern Mennonite University's Jason Lewkowicz earned the men's and women's ODAC Coach of the Year honors, respectively.  Shenandoah University thrower Justin Neff and EMU distance runner Kat Lehman garnered ODAC Rookie of the Year accolades.  The ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete Awards went to Guilford College's David Cason and EMU's Hannah Chappell-Dick.

Five ODAC championship records and one overall standard were reset, all in the women's ranks.  Bridgewater's Katelyn Senger set the ODAC overall and meet record in the discus, winning the event with a toss of 42.18 meters (138' 5.0").  Roanoke's Alease Kinney was involved in a pair of meet records.  She established a new standard in the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.03 seconds.  She then joined teammates Jessica Mejia, Erin McGovern and Alexis Janney in posting a new 4x400-meter relay record at 3:54.34.

Chappell-Dick wrote her name in the ODAC outdoor record books for the second time this season.  After setting new overall standard in 1,500-meter run during the regular season, she added a meet mark in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:13.64.  Washngton and Lee hurdler Janey Fugate capped her ODAC track career like she started it, resetting her own 400-meter hurdles record from 2012 at 1:03.69.

Toney came into the championships with the country's ninth-best time in the steeplechase.  His prowess maintained in the 3,000-meter event on Friday as he posted a time of 9:32.56 on the track at James Madison University, the lone event competed away from Bridgewater's Jopson Field.  Toney also took part in the 5,000-meter run, placing second at 15:27.36.

Lee, a two-time All-American including this past indoor season in the long jump, won twice among five events competed.  She claimed both the long and triple jump titles, leaping 5.71 meters (18' 9.00") and 11.19 meters (36' 8.50"), respectively.  She added a third place showing in the 200-meter dash (26.22), a fourth-place finish in the 100-meter dash (12.68), and joined teammates Jillian Katterhagen, Jennifer Friberg and Kara Farroni in placing fourth in the 4x100-meter relay (50.55).

Already the top rookie once this season, Lehman proved victorious in the longest two events of the meet.  She set facility records in both the 5,000-meter and 10,000-meter runs, posting times of 18:03.55 and 39:01.45.  She added a fourth-place showing in the 1,500-meter run (4:53.38).

Neff competed in all four throwing events to earn his individual honor.  He won the discus with a toss of 44.62 meters (146' 5.0") and placed third in the javelin at 47.10 meters (154' 6.0").  He added a sixth-place finish in the hammer (41.26m; 135' 4.0") and came in 14th in the shot put (10.90m; 35' 9.25").
