Virginia Wesleyan Locks Down Top Seed

FOREST, Va. --- Two ties dotted the ODAC softball standings following the last day of competition in the regular season, but neither dealt with the top seed as Virginia Wesleyan College (34-5, 17-1) enters next week's ODAC Softball Tournament with No. 1 billing.  Eastern Mennonite University (28-12, 13-5) slots as the second seed in the eight-team field.

The two stalemates in the league table both needed the conference's second tiebreaker to determine higher seeding. Defending ODAC champion Randolph-Macon College (29-11, 12-6) came out ahead of Lynchburg College (24-16, 12-6) for the third seed.  Roanoke College (18-20, 9-9) holds down fifth position outright and will square off with the Hornets in one of the first two games of the tourney.

Randolph College (21-17, 8-10) picked up two wins with a sweep of Shenandoah University on the final day to put itself into a lock with Guilford College (24-16, 8-10).  The Quakers won the tiebreaker against the WildCats, securing the sixth seed and a date with Randolph-Macon in the process. Randolph will meet EMU in its first tournament outing.  Emory & Henry College (15-25, 7-11) caps the ODAC postseason field and opens with VWC next week.

The double-elimination tournament begins on Friday, April 29 and continues through Sunday, May 1.  All games will be played at the James I. Moyer Sports Complex.
