Bridgewater Turns Double, Sweeps ODAC Indoor Track Titles

W&L's McDonald, EMU's Chappell-Dick Named Top Athletes

LANDOVER, Md. --- One streak was snapped and another was started at the 2015 ODAC Indoor Track Championships, hosted by Shenandoah University at Prince George's SportsPlex in Landover, Md.  Bridgewater College turned a double in the team standings, winning both the men's and women's crowns.  The Eagles' triumph on the women's side is their second overall and second straight title, while their victory in men's ranks marks their fifth overall and first since 1997.  It also snapped a streak of 17 straight championships won by Lynchburg College.

Eastern Mennonite University's Hannah Chappell-Dick and Washington and Lee University's Ian McDonald were tabbed the ODAC Athletes of the Meet, while Bridgewater mentor Shane Stevens won both the ODAC Men's and Women's Coach of the Year honors.  Chappell-Dick doubled as the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete winner, while fellow Royal Tyler Denlinger earned the distinction on the men's side.  EMU's Kat Lehman and Guilford College's Alex Martin received ODAC Rookie of the Year recognition.

Two ODAC Championship records were met or set, both on the women's side.  Lynchburg sprinter Aleshia Washington won the 60-meter dash in 7.85-seconds, eclipsing the 7.90 seconds set by Virginia Wesleyan College's Shakira Mills last season.  Shenandoah's Jaclyn Mohlmann posted a time of 9.34-seconds to win the 60-meter hurdles, matching the standard set by VWC's Courtney Mebane in 2013.

Chappell-Dick, a junior from Bluffton, Ohio, won twice individually and helped EMU to a relay victory.  Chappell-Dick claimed the 800-meter run crown in 2:17.37.  She added a title in the mile run in 5:18.76, an event in which she set the ODAC record (4:56.37) during the regular season.  Chappell-Dick ran the final leg of EMU's distance medley relay squad that also consisted of Jolee Paden, Chafin Brumfield, and Juni Schirch.  The quartet won the event in 12:37.64.

McDonald, a sophomore from Richmond, Va., was the lone male competitor to post multiple victories on Sunday, winning twice individually.  He won the mile run in 4:27.37, while also adding a title in the 3,000-meter run in 8:47.18. The 2014 ODAC individual cross country champion also ran the third leg of the Generals' 4x400-meter relay team.  He and John Jones, Chris Cardon and Isidro Camach placed fourth in 3:29.60.

Lehman, a freshman from Dover, Ohio, continued her strong rookie season that began during the cross country season.  She won twice in Maryland, beginning with a time of 10:46.52 to stop the watches in the 3,000-meter run.  She set the record (9:55.49) in the event earlier in the campaign.  Lehman also won the 5,000-meter run in 18:48.52.

Martin, a freshman from Pfafftown, N.C., posted a trio of top-four finishes.  He placed second in the long jump with a leap of 6.81 meters (22' 4.25").  He added a third place finish in the 60-meter dash in 7.05-seconds.  His daily performance also included a fourth place showing in the 200-meter dash in 23.11-seconds.
