GREENSBORO, N.C. --- The fourth-seeded Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team claimed an 8-5 advantage at halftime and never relinquished the lead in a 14-13 upset win over top-seeded Guilford on Saturday in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament Semifinals.

Junior attacker Katie Hagen opened the contest's scoring with an unassisted goal at 26:07. Just 3:40 later, junior midfielder Meade Brewster put the Generals up 2-0 after scoring off a feed from first-year attacker Carly Taglienti with 22:27 left.

GC then used the next 2:37 to tie up the game at 2-2, with unassisted tallies by first-year midfielder Marina Bailey and sophomore midfielder Eleanora Keene. 

The Generals answered back with three-straight goals to push their lead to three (5-2) by the 16:30 mark. In the run, Hagen notched one goal and an assist and Brewster added two more scores to her day.

Bailey broke up the scoring run with a Quaker goal at 14:17 (5-3), only to have first-year Emily Conway bring W&L's lead back to three, 6-3, less than a minute later. 

The final 10 minutes of the first half featured two more goals by each team, allowing the Generals to head into the break with an 8-5 lead. 

With goals by Hagen and Conway in the first 2:36 of the second period, the Generals gained their largest lead of the game (10-5) at 27:24. Sophomore midfielder Eleanora Keene cut the Quakers' deficit to four, 10-6, with 26:17 to play, but Hagen notched her fourth goal of the game at the 25:05 to bring the lead to 11-6.

GC fought back with four-straight goals over the next 2:28 to come as close as one goal (11-10) as the clock read 20:59. During the streak, junior midfielder Becca Colley scored twice, while junior attackers Lily Colley and E'leyna Garcia each recorded a goal. 

The Generals increased their advantage to three, 13-10, with unassisted scores by Hagen and junior attacker Margaret Klein by the 15:57 mark. However, Bailey and Garcia netted back-to-back goals for the Quakers to get within one (13-12) once again.

Sophomore attacker Catherine Klinedinst scored W&L's 14th goal with 9:47 to go (14-12). With less than five minutes left, Keene brought the score to 14-13 with a goal at 4:09, but the Generals held GC scoreless in the remaining time to claim the victory. 

In goal for the Blue and White was sophomore Cara Mulligan, who collected 11 saves, 13 goals-against and three ground balls in 60 minutes of action. Senior Liza Mettler spent the entire game in the cage for the Quakers, tallying 15 saves, 14 goals-against and three ground balls.

Hagen led all scorers with six goals and one assist. Brewster tallied three goals and six draw controls, and Conway totaled three scores and four draw controls. 

For GC, Bailey, Kenne, Garcia and Becca Colley each recorded three goals. Keene added four draw controls and three ground balls, and Garcia picked up four draw controls.

With the win, the Generals will now advance to the ODAC Championship game on Saturday, May 4, where they will face second-seeded Shenandoah. The Hornets will be the host. Game time is not yet determined.
