Lynchburg Wins Fourth Straight ODAC Women's Soccer Title

LYNCHBURG, Va. --- The Lynchburg College women's soccer team won its fourth straight Old Dominion Athletic Conference with a 2-0 victory over Washington and Lee University Saturday afternoon.  The Hornets earn the ODAC's automatic qualification into the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament.

Similar to the regular season meeting, Lynchburg kept the ball in the Washington and Lee half of the pitch the majority of the first half. LC managed eight shots in the first stanza, three of which were saved by Addie Healy.

Still scoreless 20 minutes in, Jessie Gonzalez took advantage of a friendly bounce to give the Hornets the 1-0 lead. With a ball 30 yards out and near the sideline, Gonzalez booted a ball towards the Generals' goal. The ball bounced in front of Healy, but a high hop cleared the keeper and found the back of the net.

Lynchburg tacked on an insurance goal six minutes into the second half when all-tournament team selection Dessi Dupuy found fellow selection Angela Bosco for the second score.

Healy finished with six saves for the Generals. Tess Frelick picked up her third shutout of the season and second against W&L.

Lynchburg outshot the Generals (17-3-1) 17-1 and maintained a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Hornets (21-1) move on to the NCAA Tournament for the seventh straight year. Lynchburg will find out their opponent during the NCAA Selection Show Monday afternoon at 1:30 p.m.
