Marlins Head to Semis with Five-Set Win Over Guilford

ROANOKE, Va. --- Third-seeded Virginia Wesleyan College rallied for a 25-18, 17-25, 22-25, 25-12, 15-9 victory over number-six Guilford College Friday night in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinal. The Marlins (22-9) advance to the tournament semifinals to play second-seeded Randolph-Macon College, which defeated Bridgewater College, 3-0.  Guilford concludes its best volleyball season since 1995 with a 16-13 overall record.

Virginia Wesleyan avenged a regular-season 3-1 setback at Guilford.  VWC is now 22-9, one win shy of tying the program record for victories for the third consecutive year.

Lindsey Spears led three Marlins with double-figure kills with 14.  Kala Guy and Taylory Allen each chipped in eight winners.  Marissa Wood handed out 48 assists.  Defensively, Erin Paton collected 17 digs while Guy added 11 pickups.

Traci Teague paced the Quakers with 13 kills. Teammate Brittany Freeman added eight kils and 18 digs. Taylor Phillips chipped in with 33 digs and Taylor Whitley added 30 assists.
