ODAC Players of the Week

BASEBALL
Drew Crawford, Guilford, Jr.,
Pitcher
Crawford, a junior from Newport,
Tenn., helped the Quakers to their first sweep of Washington and
Lee University since 2008 by firing eight strong innings in game
two of their doubleheader. Crawford scattered six hits and allowed
two runs without walking a batter. He fanned three Generals and
retired 17 of the last 18 batters he faced, including 16 straight.
Crawford is now 2-2 on the season with a 4.65 earned run average in
covering six appearances (four starts) and 31.0 innings of
work.

BASEBALL
Michael Paul, Shenandoah, Jr., Third
Base
Paul, a junior from Red Hill, Pa.,
helped the Hornets to a 5-1 week by batting .423 (11-for-26) and
reaching base in all six games played. Paul smacked six doubles and
two homers among his 11 hits, scoring 10 times and driving in 14
runs. He also walked five times towards a .531 on-base percentage,
and racked up an .885 slugging percentage. He had three multi-hit
games, including a 3-for-6 showing with three doubles and four RBI
in a 15-12 win over Hampden-Sydney. He went 3-for-3 with a double
and homer to go with four more RBI in a 13-10 triumph over
SUNY-Cortland. Paul is currently third in the ODAC in batting
(.463) and OBP (.547), while leading the league in slugging (.796).
He's fourth with 21 runs scored.

GOLF
Brian Burt, Hampden-Sydney,
Jr.
Burt, a junior from Holt, Mich., put
together a pair of top-10 finishes last week, including the top
prize at the TaylorMade adidas Intercollegiate. He posted a 1-over
par 217 over three rounds on the Cotton Dike Course at Dataw
Island, including a tournament-best 69 during the second round. He
shot 74 in both the first and third rounds. His efforts helped
Hampden-Sydney to a third place team finish (921). Burt followed up
that performace by tying for sixth at the Jekyll Island Collegiate
Invitational at Pine Lakes Golf Club in Jekyll Island, Ga. He
posted an even-par 216, again matching the tournament's best round
with a 68 over the second 18 holes. He went 73 and 75 in rounds one
and three, respectively. Burt currently leads the ODAC in scoring
average at 72.6 strokes per round over 17 rounds played.

GOLF
Elizabeth Cheng, Hollins,
Sr.
Cheng, a senior from Virginia Beach,
Va., started off the spring campaign with a top-10 showing at the
Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational. She posted an 18-over par
234 to finish 11 shots off the lead in a top for eighth place. She
carded rounds of 77, 77 and 80 playing as an individual under the
Hollins banner. Her opening round 77 tied for the best score of the
day.

MEN'S LACROSSE
Aaron Murphy, Lynchburg, So.,
Attack
Murphy, a sophomore from Downington,
Pa., helped the 12th-ranked Hornets to a 2-0 week that included a
15-7 win over Guilford College and a 10-9 triumph over Colorado
College. Against GC, Murphy scored five times including one man-up
tally. He followed that with three goals, including a pair in the
decisive second period where LC blew open the contest to 8-3 by
halftime. He also had three ground balls in that contest. Murphy
has scored 13 goals this season. He's sixth in the ODAC with 23
points and 10 assists.

MEN'S TENNIS
Brandon Larsen, Bridgewater, Jr., No. 1
Singles, No. 1/2 Doubles
Larsen, a junior from Woodbridge, Va.,
helped the Eagles to a 4-1 showing over spring break as he went 4-0
in singles play and 5-0 in doubles action. Larsen and doubles
partner Thomas Rishcoff posted No. 2 doubles wins over Marietta
College (8-2), nationally-ranked Case Western Reserve (9-8), Ohio
Wesleyan College (8-5) and Penn St.-Behrend (8-0). The duo also
posted a No. 1 doubles victory over Eastern Nazarene (8-2). Larsen
recorded all four of his singles wins from the top flight, beating
the No. 1 players from Marietta (6-1, 6-1), OWU (6-2, 6-4), ENC
(6-0, 6-0) and PSU-B (6-0, 6-0). His singles match against CWRU was
rained out.

SOFTBALL
Maggie Shaffer, Guilford, So.,
Pitcher
Shaffer, a sophomore from Horsham,
Pa., picked up a pair of conference wins last week to help the
Quakers open their ODAC slate at 2-1. Shaffer's two victories came
in a 9-7 win against Roanoke and a 2-0 shutout at eighth-ranked
Virginia Wesleyan, which marked the first loss of the season for
the Marlins. Shaffer started her week by fiving up four runs on
five hits with four walks and a pair of strikeouts in 5.1 innings
of work towards the win against the Maroons. She followed that with
seven scoreless frames against VWC in which she scattered six hits
while walking one and striking out one. Shaffer is now 7-1 on the
season, with her seven wins ranking second in the ODAC. She owns a
2.68 earned run average covering nine appearances (7 starts) and
47.0 innings of work.

SOFTBALL
Hunter Glave, Randolph, Fr., First
Base
Glave, a freshman from Ashland, Va.,
helped the WildCats to a 6-0 week by hitting .600 and some strong
glove work at first base. She reached base in all six games,
drawing a walk in a 7-4 win over Greenville despite not getting a
hit. She followed that with five straight multi-hit games,
including a pair of three-hit efforts. She went 12-for-20 overall
with four doubles, two triples, a homer and 10 runs batted in. She
scored nine times and walked four times towards a .640 on-base
percentage. She went 3-for-4 with a double, two triples and four
RBI in a 9-8 win over Blackburn. She went 3-for-3 with two doubles,
a walk and a pair of RBI in a 17-3 win over Keystone. For the
season, Glave is batting .446 and is ranked in the top-five in the
ODAC in several categories including hits (25), runs (17), doubles
(6) and RBI (18).

WOMEN'S LACROSSE
Lily Colley, Guilford, Sr.,
Attack/Midfielder
Colley, a senior from Wells, Maine,
set the Guilford women's lacrosse single-game record with 12 points
in the Quakers' 20-18 comeback win at Randolph-Macon. Colley scored
five times and matched her career-high with seven assists as she
had a hand in 12 of GC's 20 goals scored. She also picked up three
ground balls and recorded a draw control. Colley is currently tied
for second in the ODAC with 36 points. Her 16 assists lead the
league. She is within two assists of setting Guilford's career
record, and is currently third on GC's all-time points list.

WOMEN'S TENNIS
Katie Gordon, Bridgewater, Sr., No. 1
Singles, No. 1 Doubles
Gordon, a senior from Winchester, Va.,
helped the Eagles to three wins during their spring break trip as
she went 3-0 and No. 1 singles and 3-0 at No. 1 doubles with
partner Maria Hawkins. The duo topped pairings from Marietta
College (8-1), Ohio Wesleyan University (8-6) and Penn St.-Behrend
(8-1). Gordon's singles wins came via 6-0, 6-1 (MC), 6-3, 6-1 (OWU)
and 6-1, 6-0 (PSU-B) results, losing just six total games.
