ODAC Players of the Week

FOOTBALL
Andrew Palmer, Bridgewater, Sr.,
Linebacker
Palmer, a senior from Penn Laird, Va.,
led the Eagles defense in completely shutting down St. Vincent's
offense in a 57-0 victory, BC's first whitewashing of an opponent
since starting the 2006 season with back-to-back shutouts. Palmer
led all tacklers with nine stops, including a tackle for a loss. He
also picked off a pass to setup a BC score early in the second
half. It was one of four turnovers forced by the Bridgewater
defense (three fumbles). The Eagles surrendered just 181 total
yards of offense and didn't allow Bearcats beyond midfield until
the final drive of the game.

FOOTBALL
Nash Nance, Hampden-Sydney, Jr.,
Quarterback
Nance, a junior from Calhoun, Ga.,
opened the new campaign with arguably his best day as a Tiger in
leading Hampden-Sydney to a 42-12 triumph over Averett University.
The H-SC signal-caller had a hand in all six Tiger touchdowns as he
threw for four and ran for two more. He was nearly perfect thru the
air, completing 24-of-28 passes for 372 yards without an
interception. He and wide receiver Holton Walker connected 14 times
for a school-record 235 yards and two scores. On the ground, Nance
toted the ball eight times for 75 yards, his best day running the
ball at H-SC.

FIELD HOCKEY
Jessica Balsano, Bridgewater, Sr.,
Goalkeeper
Balsano, a senior from Sandy Hook,
Conn., posted the third shutout of her career as Bridgewater topped
Rhodes, 2-0. The Eagles' keeper faced 20 shots on the afternoon and
turned away the eight that were on-cage, including five in the
first half as BC built a 2-0 advantage. She stopped three more
attempts in the second half to help the Eagles remain unbeaten this
season.

GOLF
Caleb Martin, Virginia Wesleyan,
Fr.
Martin, a freshman from
Charlottesville, Va., started off his collegiate career in fine
fashion as he tied for 15th overall at the Transylania Fall
Invitational hosted by Transylania University at the University
Club of Kentucky in Lexington, Ky. Martin opened with a 1-under par
71 on the 7,013-yard track, placing him a tied for fourth with
several other individuals after 18 holes. He posted a 5-over 77 on
day two to finish at four-over 148. Martin's efforts led Virginia
Wesleyan's lineup as the Marlins placed 17th as a team.

MEN'S SOCCER
Robbie Lentine, Roanoke, So.,
Defender
Lentine, a sophomore from Raymond,
Del., earned a spot on the Shellenberger Classic All-Tournament
Team after notching a pair of goals in the Maroons 2-0 week. On
Saturday, he open Roanoke's account in the 15th minute as he scored
the opening goal off a pass from Patrick Bain in the Maroons 2-0
triumph over Marymount (Va.). Lentine provided the finishing touch
in Roanoke's 3-2 double-overtime triumph over John Carroll. In the
101st minute, he slotted home a pass from Tyler Carbaugh to end the
contest and move Roanoke to 4-0 on the early season.

WOMEN'S SOCCER
Kaitlyn Clunan, Virginia Wesleyan, So.,
Forward
Clunan, a sophomore from Virginia
Beach, Va., scored four of the Marlins' six goals over the weekend
as Virginia Wesleyan claimed the Captains Classic title. She needed
just 3:37 to open the scoring in a 3-0 win over Kean University.
She followed that with all three goals in VWC's 3-1 triumph over
Baldwin-Wallace College (Ohio). Clunan notched the first goal in
the 13th minute, and then put the Marlins ahead, 2-0, with an
unassisted effort in the 62nd minute. B-WC cut the lead in half two
minutes later, but Clunan put the game out of reach in the 85th
minute to complete her hat-trick. Clunan is currently tied atop the
ODAC with four goals scored.

VOLLEYBALL
Tristen Pennington, Emory & Henry,
Fr., Outside Hitter
Pennington, a freshamn from Kingsport,
Tenn., has put together a pair of strong weeks in her debut season
to help lead Emory & Henry to an ODAC-best 5-1 record. In a 4-1
showing this week, Pennington collected 70 total kills and averaged
3.68 per set as she hit .244 overall and accounted for 78 points
won of the Wasps. She smacked double-figure winners in all five
matches, including a weekly high of 19 to go with 14 digs in a 3-1
win over Methodist. Pennington registered 65 total digs, including
22 against Virginia Intermont. She added seven total aces to her
stat line. Pennington is currently #1 in the ODAC in kills per set
(3.68).

CROSS COUNTRY
Ryan Gehman, Eastern Mennonite,
Junior
Gehman, a junior from Millersville,
Pa., didn't take long to make an impact for the Royals as the
transfer from Montreat College (NAIA) won the Generals XC
Invitational in just his second race of the season. Gehman stopped
the watches in 28:22.80 after completing the eight-kilometer course
more than 17-seconds ahead of the second place finisher. His
efforts helped EMU to a third place showing in the team
standings.

CROSS COUNTRY
Casey Mackintosh, Washington and Lee,
Junior
Mackintosh, a junior from Marietta,
Ga., picks her second weekly award in as many weeks. Mackintosh
took first place for the second consecutive week, winning the
Generals XC Invitational on Saturday. She crossed the finish line
in 20:12.10 on the 5K course. Mackintosh finished 1:09.40 ahead of
teammate Katy Bonaro, who came in second overall. Mackintosh helped
the team take the top spot by 37 points.
