ODAC Athletes of the Week | Field Hockey, Soccer, Track & Field

FOREST, Va. --- We have a couple of firsts on this Tuesday report in Week Eight of the ODAC season. Field hockey joins the ranks for the first time this spring, while track & field moved outdoors. Men's and women's soccer also continued their campaigns. Those earning ODAC Athlete of the Week awards include (pictured from top and left): Edward Rajner from Emory & Henry men's track & field, Maiya Pencile from Shenandoah women's soccer, Cor'shauna Cunningham and Isaac Alderfer from Eastern Mennonite women's and men's track & field, Adalia Coleman from Bridgewater women's track & field, Emily Dudley from Lynchburg field hockey, and Kade Wheeler from Hampden-Sydney men's soccer.

Below are entries for all seven winners from today's release. Stay tuned for ODAC weekly golf awards on Wednesday.

FIELD HOCKEY PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Emily Dudley | Lynchburg | Sr. | Forward
Dudley, a senior from Westminster, Md., got the first ODAC spring field hockey season started on the right foot for Lynchburg as she helped her Hornets top Shenandoah, 3-1, in a rematch of the past two ODAC championship games. Dudley assisted Brittany Claybaugh on the game's opening goal in the ninth minute, and then scored the go-ahead goal for a 2-1 lead in the 38th minute. The contest was the first for both squads this season.

WOMEN'S SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Maiya Pencile | Shenandoah | Jr. | Forward
Pencile, a junior from Chester, Va., put scored five goals over two games as she helped Shenandoah to a 1-1 week to move to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the ODAC standings so far this season. Pencile opened with three goals in the Hornets 4-1 triumph for 2019 ODAC champion Randolph-Macon. She tallied SU's final three goals in the 28th, 32nd, and 56th minutes, the latter providing the Hornets with a 4-0 advantage. In SU's second game of the week at Roanoke, Pencile again helped the Hornets to a big lead as she scored in the 42nd and 54th minutes to put Shenandoah ahead, 3-0, but the Maroons responded with four unanswered goals to take the result, 4-3. For the season, Pencile leads the ODAC in points (12) and goals scored (6).

MEN'S SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kade Wheeler | Hampden-Sydney | So | Forward
Wheeler, a sophomore from Blacksburg, Va., put together a four-point game to help Hampden-Sydney to a 4-2 win on the road at Randolph-Macon. Wheeler assisted Declan Shaw on the second goal of the game in the 27th minute and again provided the helping hand to Emory Davis on the Tigers' fourth goal in the 84th minute. Wheeler registered his first goal of the season on an unassisted effort in the 58th minute, providing the third and ultimately deciding goal in H-SC's win. Hampden-Sydney is now 3-0 overall and in ODAC play.

WOMEN'S OUTDOOR FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Cor'shauna Cunningham | Eastern Mennonite | Jr. | Throws
Cunningham, a junior from Strasburg, Va., won a pair of throwing events to open the 2021 outdoor season at the North River Invitational hosted by Bridgewater College. Cunningham, who missed most of last season due to injury, won the shot put with a toss of 11.10 meters (36-5.00), which is tied for fourth in the early NCAA Division III rankings with Emily DeYoung from Pacific University (Ore.). Cunningham added a gold medal in the discus after heaving the apparatus 34.93 meters (114-7.00). That mark is 10th in the country.

MEN'S OUTDOOR FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Edward Rajner | Emory & Henry | Jr. | Throws
Rajner, a junior from Bainbridge, N.Y., put together a record-setting performance to open Emory & Henry's outdoor season at the North River Invitational hosted by Bridgewater College. Rajner accounted for 28 of the Wasps' 46 points at the meet as he won two throws and finished second in a third. He set a new E&H record in winning the discus at 42.30 meters (138-9.00). That mark ranks sixth in the early NCAA Division III rankings. Rajner also won the shot put with a heave of 12.84 meters (42-1.50), which sits 15th in the country. He added a second place showing in the hammer throw at 37.58 meters (123-3.00), which is 21st in the nation.

WOMEN'S OUTDOOR TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Adalia Coleman | Bridgewater | Fy. | Sprints
Coleman, a first-year from Warrenton, Va., won twice in her first collegiate outdoor appearance at the North River Invitational hosted by Bridgewater College. Coleman captured first place in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes in 12.80-seconds and 26.20-seconds, respectively. Her 100-dash time is seventh in NCAA Division III, while is a few slots higher in a tie for second place in the early season rankings with Lewis & Clark College's Anisha Greene. Those times also rank ninth and seventh, respectively, in the Bridgewater record books.

MEN'S OUTDOOR TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Isaac Alderfer | Eastern Mennonite | Jr. | Mid-Distance/Distance
Alderfer, a junior from Broadway, Va., continued his dominance on the track this spring with a pair of Division III top-ranked runs at the North River Invitational hosted by Bridgewater College. Alderfer, who claimed three ODAC indoor weekly honors, has his named perched atop the 1,500-meter and 5,000-meter run charts in the early national rankings. He won the 1,500m run in 3:59.24, which ranks sixth all-time in Eastern Mennonite history. His winning time of 15:29.76 in the 5,000m run is seventh in the Royals' record books.
