Late-Inning Surge Ends BC's Season

Three-Inning Stretch Helps Seagulls Past Eagles

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - With the game tied at two each, Salisbury tagged three runs on the board in the sixth, before notching a total of seven runs in three innings to knock the Bridgewater Eagles baseball out of the NCAA South Regional Championships at Methodist University by a 9-2 tally.

Bridgewater took the lead early when a Devon Snow double to left center drove home Drew Easter to put the Eagles ahead 1-0 after three innings.

Salisbury bridged the gap in the fourth when a Ryan Smith single plated Devon Quaglietta to knot the game at one apiece.

In the bottom of the frame, the Eagles responded with a run of their own when a groundout to third from the bat of Blake Stokely brought in second baseman Kevin Kirk to give BC a 2-1 advantage.

The Seagulls knotted the game back up in the top of the fifth when a Chad Wolfe groundout to shortstop drove in Brad Baylis to bring the score to 2-2.

Following a scoreless fifth from the Eagles, Salisbury took its first lead of the ballgame when a a Tim Kellinger sacrifice fly drove in Matt O'Keefe to put the Seagulls ahead 3-2.

Salisbury added to its lead when a Mike Celenza double to left center scored Andy Miller and Baylis to put the Eagles at a 5-2 deficit.

Bridgewater was only able to manufacture three more hits across the final four innings of play, while Salisbury plated four more runs to hand the Eagles a 9-2 defeat, ending their season.

At the plate, Snow led the way with a 3-for-4 day, with a double and a RBI.

Senior Casey Hartman picked up the loss for the Eagles. Hartman tossed the four-complete innings before being relieved after back-to-back walks to open the fifth.

Salisbury was led at the plate by O'Keefe and Baylis who each recorded three hits in the win. Celenza also had a solid day at the plate going 1-for-2 with a trio of walks and two RBI.

On the mound, Dustin Herbert picked up the victory for the Seagulls.

Bridgewater ends the season with a 23-20-1 record after winning the program's 13th ODAC Championship.
