JHU Eliminates R-MC from NCAA Play

Yellow Jackets Wrap Up 2011 Season

LAKEWOOD, N.J. --- Randolph-Macon Baseball saw their 2011 season come to an end Thursday evening in Lakewood, N.J. as Johns Hopkins downed the Jackets, 8-5, in a Mid-Atlantic Region Tournament elimination game.

Jordan Walton led off the second inning with his 31st double of the season and later scored when Jay Lichter grounded into a double play to put Randolph-Macon ahead 1-0.

Johns Hopkins answered with three runs in the bottom half, two of them coming on a Zakszeski double to right center.

A Peter Culver RBI single in the third pulled R-MC within two before Brian Jordandoubled home a run in the fifth to tie the game at 3-3.

The Blue Jays rallied for another three run inning in the bottom of the sixth on four hits and one Yellow Jacket error.

Michael Helbig scored in the top of the seventh on a Jordan sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 6-4 but Johns Hopkins tacked on a run in both the seventh and the eighth before winning by a final of 8-5.

Jamie Hendrick is stuck with the loss after allowing five earned runs on 10 hits while striking out four over six innings. Dale Langford gave up one earned run in an inning and a third. Josh Ellwood recorded the final out in the eighth.

Walton paced the Jackets at the plate going 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Jay Lichter also had a multi-hit game with two singles.

Randolph-Macon finishes the 2011 season with a 24-20 record and an ODAC Championship.
