Habitat for Humanity to Benefit from Football Game

W&L vs. Averett to Donate All Proceeds from Saturday's Contest

LEXINGTON, Va. --- Washington and Lee University and Averett University will be meeting on the gridiron on Sat., Sept. 22 at Salem Stadium in Salem, Va. Proceeds from the football game will be donated to Habitat for Humanity.

The game, which is sponsored by the two schools and the City of Salem, will be played at 7:00 pm at the home of the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl, the NCAA Division III Championship game.

Tickets will be sold at the gate and are available on Ticketmaster.  Prices will be $5.00 for Adults, $3.00 for seniors and students with a valid University ID, and $1.00 for children under the age of 12. All revenue received from ticket sales will be donated to Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry.

HFHI seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world, and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action.

Habitat invites people of all backgrounds, races and religions to build houses together in partnership with families in need. Habitat has built more than 225,000 houses around the world, providing more than one million people in more than 3,000 communities with safe, decent, affordable shelter. HFHI was founded in 1976 by Millard Fuller along with his wife, Linda.

The game marks the first-ever meeting between Averett and Washington and Lee, winners of the USA South Conference and Old Dominion Athletic Conference, respectively, during the 2006 season.

The two teams will also meet in Salem during the 2008 season, with Averett serving as the host school.
