ODAC Football Report: Week 3

Three ODAC schools remained undefeated through the third week of gridiron action.  Emory & Henry, Hampden-Sydney and Randolph-Macon all have handled their non-conference schedules without a blemish, as has Bridgewater, but the Eagles were idle this weekend (bye week).  R-MC quarterback Austin Faulkner fired five touchdown passes in the Jackets 42-14 win over Shenandoah.  E&H defensive back, Daniel Woods, picked off a pair of passes in the second half in the Wasps' 20-10 win over UVA-Wise.

An estimated 8,500 people filled Fullerton Field for the local showdown featuring Emory & Henry and UVA-Wise.  The Wasps topped the traditional NAIA offensive power by a 20-10 score.  Running back Caleb Jennings continues to tear through defensive lines as he rushed for 149 yards and a touchdown to pace the offense.  He leads the ODAC in several rushing categories (click HERE for league leaders).  Quarterback Dustin Beck tossed a touchdown pass to Corey Ware for the second straight week.  Defensive back Daniel Woods paced a solid effort from the defense has he intercepted a pair of passes in the second half, the last coming on Wise's final drive in the end zone to secure the victory.  Mike Young also intercepted a pass. --- Box Score

Guilford fell to 0-3 on the season with a 45-9 loss at Averett University.  The Quakers' put points on the board first via De'Shawn Lindsay and the longest return in Guilford's NCAA Division III history.  Lindsay scooped up a fumble at the GC 8-yard line and darted 92-yards for the touchdown.  He also added eight tackles and a pass break-up.  Tyler Hull later tacked on his first career field goal, a 34-yard effort for the straight-on kicker.  Chris Jessup led the defense with nine tackles and a sack.  Chris Ward also added a QB takedown.  On offense, Ben King hauled in five more passes to give him 22 receptions on the season. --- Box Score

Hampden-Sydney recorded its first shutout of the season with a 38-0 whitewashing of Sewanee.  Kyle Vance was the star on offense as he corralled 11 passes from quarterback Travis Lane for 197 yards and a pair of 24-yard touchdown strikes.  Lane shook off last week's five-interception game with a 19-of-28 effort for 260 yards and three touchdowns.  He also ran for a team-high 60 yards that included a 36-yard jaunt.  The Tiger defense allowed only seven first downs and 122 yards (80 rushing, 42 passing) of offense to Sewanee in its most complete effort of the season.  Ty Condrey made six stops including 3.5 TFLs and one quarterback sack.  Will Riggenbach also had a sack.  Bill Doody intercepted a pass, giving him three picks for the season (tied for tops in the ODAC with E&H's Woods). --- Box Score

Randolph-Macon, a new member of the D3football.com Top-25 Poll (#25, see full Week 3 poll HERE) moved to 3-0 for the first time since 1986 with a 42-14 triumph over Shenandoah University.  Quarterback Austin Faulkner threw five touchdown passes as part of a 267-yard 25-for-32 passing day.  Dan Crouch and Earl Peoples each caught touchdown passes.  Peoples made a run at his own ODAC record as he secured 17 receptions for 170 yards, tied for the second-most catches in a single game in ODAC history.  Peoples set that mark with 20 grabs against Washington and Lee last year.  The Yellow Jacket defense limited Shenandoah to 143 total yards of offense (72 passing, 71 rushing).  Trey Haddon led the unit with seven stops, and Ian Candelaria came away with a sack. --- Box Score
