ODAC Places 13 on D3football.com All-South Teams
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. --- Bridgewater
College's Tyler Beiler learned of another major honor on Thursday
following the announcement of the 2010 D3football.com
All-Region Teams. The Eagles' receiver was tabbed the South
Region Player of the Year, highlighting a contingent of 13
student-athletes from the ODAC schools honored amongst the first,
second and third team all-region lists. The conference placed
five players on the first team alone.
Joining Beiler on the All-South First Team are Emory & Henry
running back Caleb Jennings and a trio of Hampden-Sydney College
Tigers in linebacker Trevor Ikwild, safety Bill Doody, and
place-kicker David Prizzia.
Eight players from four different league schools dotted the second
and third teams. Washington and Lee University and ODAC
leading rusher, Luke Heinsohn, is the conference's lone
representative on second team offense. Defensively, he is
joined by fellow General, safety Jake Pelton, as well as H-SC
lineman Will Riggenbach. The ODAC's third team representation
included W&L center and 2010 ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance
Scholar-Athlete, Greg Kurkis, as well as Randolph-Macon College
receiver Earl Peoples and tackle Morgan Cross. Ben Keyser
joined his Yellow Jacket teammates as the third team punter, and
was joined by Bridgewater defensive lineman Dominic Jeter in
rounding out the ODAC's honorees.
The D3football.com All-Region Teams are a precursor
to the organizations All-America squads that will be released next
week as the NCAA Division III seasons comes to a conclusion with
the 38th Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl in Salem, Va. The playoffs
are currently in the semifinal round, with winners this weekend
making the trip to the Roanoke Valley for a 3:30 p.m. kick-off on
Saturday, December 18, in Salem Stadium.
The ODAC's strong showing in the all-region process comes on the
heels of an equally impressive set of announcements earlier this
week in Richmond. ODAC athletes swept each of five state-wide
college division awards presented by the Touchdown Club of Richmond
in conjunction with the Richmond Times-Dispatch. Beiler took
home the inaugural Willie Lanier Award as the state's top player
amongst NCAA Division II, III and NAIA competitors. Virgina
Tech's Tyrod Taylor won the Dudley Award, which honors the state's
best NCAA Division I football player.
Beiler was one of four position award winners, also presented by
the Touchdown Club of Richmond. He was named the Offensive
End of the Year, and was joined on that side of the ball by H-SC
quarterback Travis Lane, who was tabbed the Offensive Back of the
Year. Defensively, two more Tigers received accolades.
Riggenbach was chosen as the winner of the Defensive End of
the Year honor for the second time in as many years. Ikwild,
the 2010 ODAC Lou Wacker Defensive Player of the Year, was named
the Linebacker/Defensive Back of the Year.
