FOREST, Va. ---
The 2011 NCAA Division III regular season is in the books, and Hampden-Sydney is set to play in the tournament.  That didn't keep Randolph-Macon from beating the Tigers, 48-34, in the 117th "The Game."  Bridgewater came back to top Catholic, 22-19, and Emory & Henry shut down Guilford, 30-6.

Despite its regular season-ending loss to Randolph-Macon, Hampden-Sydney will continue its schedule for at least one more game as the Tigers travel to Centre College (Ky.) for their NCAA Division III Tournament first round matchup.  Kick-off is set for 12:00 p.m. EST on Saturday in Danville, Ky.  For a look at the full bracket, click HERE or go to www.ncaa.com.

Randolph-Macon put together arguably its most complete effort in knocking off Hampden-Sydney on Saturday in Ashland.  The Tigers ran for 301 yards on the way to 567 yards of total offense.  While the defense allowed Travis Lane to throw for 402 yards, he did so over 62 pass attempts and 32 completions.  Thaddeus Scruggs and Drake Sanders powered R-MC's rushing offense as both had 190 total yards from offense or better with each cross the 130-yard rushing mark with a pair of touchdowns.  The Yellow Jackets opened up a 13-0 lead as they converted fumbles by Lane and Dallas Streelman into touchdowns.  H-SC rebounded with a score at the end of the first quarter, and then took advantage of a Sanders fumble to take a 14-13 lead in the second quarter.  Sanders made up for it later in the second frame with a 72-yard screen pass touchdown.  R-MC led 26-21 at the half, but it was long before that lead was 12 points following a 13-yard jaunt by Scruggs, which he set up with a 60-yard catch-and-run off a swing pass.  R-MC led 48-27 early in the fourth quarter, but H-SC threatened to make a late charge before Jeremy Bowry intercepted a pass with less than three minutes to play to effectively seal the outcome.

Bridgewater running back Anthony Carter registered his sixth 100-yard rushing day in eight games played this season as he opened the game with a three-yard touchdown run for an early 7-0 lead for the Eagles.  But that would be the final BC points until the fourth quarter.  Meanwhile, Catholic rattled off 13 unanswered tallies to take a 13-7 lead into the half.  Jeff Frusciante caught a 20-yard strike from Greg Cordivari, and Brian Gongaware added field goals of 29 and 27 yards.  After a scoreless third quarter, Bridgewater enjoyed a brief lead with 6:34 to play as Darrin McKenzie burst for a 39-yard touchdown run.  But Cordivari struck again as he hit Tucker Hubbell with a 37-yard scoring pass with 30 seconds to play for a 19-14 lead.  The ensuing kick-off was short and gave possession to the Eagles at their own 37-yard line.  Quarterback Carlos Gonzalez completed passes of 16 and 17 yards to Cassidy Burns, which in conjunction with a CUA personal foul put BC on Catholic's 15-yard line with just seconds to play.  Then Gonzalez completed his third and most important pass of the drive as he hit Cliff Woodard for the game-deciding score with 0:05 to play.  Carter, who finished with 137 yards on 26 carries, added a two-point rush to supply the game's final score.

Emory & Henry took control early in its contest as the Wasps intercepted GC quarterback Zac Halbert four times, once in each quarter.  Three of those interceptions were by Devan Sproles, marking the first time an ODAC student-athlete recorded three picks in a contest since Catholic's Nick Olivero turned the trick in 2007.  E&H led 10-0 early behind a Matt Turchin 46-yard field goal and touchdown pass from Kyle Boden to Sam Edmonds, but Guilford made the score 10-6 with a TD pass to Lawrence Blake from Halbert.  Turchin added another field goal to send E&H into the half up 13-6.  That started a string of 20 straight points for E&H as Joseph Vaughn ripped off a 38-yard touchdown run mid-way through the fourth quarter, followed by Boden's second touchdown pass of the game, this one to Adrian Jordan.  Turchin capped the scoring with a 32-yard boot.  Boden finished 25-of-45 for 264 yards and two scores.  For Guilford, it was Ben King that led the offense with 11 catches for 86 yards as he finished his two-year Quakers' career with 150 catches, 2,076 yards and 18th touchdowns, which all rank inside GC's all-time top-10.

ODAC PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

THRU WEEK PRIOR TO: NOVEMBER 13, 2011

FOOTBALL
Devan Sproles, Emory & Henry, Junior, Linebacker
Sproles, a junior from Norton, Va., picks up his second weekly award of the season after helping the Wasps to a 30-6 year-ending win over Guilford. Sproles was second on the unit with nine tackles, but he also had a sack and broke up pass. His biggest contribution came in the form of three interceptions, which tied for sixth in the ODAC single-game record books with several individuals. The last time an ODAC athlete intercepted three passes in a game was in 2007 when Catholic's Nick Olivero turned the trick. Sproles intercepted one pass in each of the second, third and fourth quarters against the Quakers, with his final takeaway leading to a Wasps' touchdown.
