FOREST, Va. --- Four ODAC football teams remain undefeated thru the third week of the season, albeit one via bye week.  Catholic University, Hampden-Sydney College and Randolph-Macon College each moved to 3-0, while Bridgewater College remained 2-0 as the Eagles had the week off.

Catholic got the action started via its second straight Friday night contest.  The Cardinals again were forced to come from behind in defeating Carnegie Mellon University, 29-28.  Down 7-0 early and then 28-13 with 4:46 to go in the third quarter, Catholic rattled off two touchdowns and a field goal to win its third straight game in the final moments.  In fact, CUA has out-scored its opponents 49-13 in the final stanza so far this season.  Greg Cordivari threw for 358 yards and two scores as he continues to lead the ODAC in passing yardage.  Running back Mike Pitsenberger ran for 98 yards and a touchdown while also catching seven passes for 50 yards.

Hampden-Sydney College, ranked 23rd in last week's D3football.com Top-25 Poll, put together an all-around performance in topping Ferrum 38-7.  Wide receiver Kyle Vance hauled in 14 passes for 228 yards and a touchdown.  The yardage broke H-SC's single-game record.  Quarterback Travis Lane threw for 362 yards and two touchdowns.  Running back Kirk Rohle caught one of those scores and ran for two more.  Defensively, Sean Stewart led the unit with 11 tackles (7 solo), 2.5 tackles for a loss and a forced fumble that H-SC recovered.

Randolph-Macon topped future ODAC-member Shenandoah, 36-29, in a game that featured off-and-on rain throughout.  R-MC ran for 202 yards on the day led by Thaddeus Scruggs 119 yards and two touchdowns.  Quarterback Zac Naccarato made up for a lackluster passing day with three touchdown runs, all from inside the 10-yard line.  Defensively, the Yellow Jackets forced four Hornet turnovers including a trio of interceptions.  Henry Kuhn, Jeremy Bowry and Andrew Leonard each picked off a pass, and Cross Trued forced and recovered the same fumble.

Guilford College suffered its second straight loss, this one to Averett, 35-21.  The Quakers found themselves down 21-0 early in the contest and made a charge in the fourth quarter, only to come up short by the final whistle.  Quarterback Grady Gamble threw for 280 yards and a touchdown, but was intercepted four times.  Receivers Lawrence Blake (9 for 136) and Ben King (7 for 126) each eclipsed 100 yards with King catching a touchdown pass.  Defensively, Tony Marsh and Alex Smith each intercepted passes.

Emory & Henry fell victim to some last second heroics by UVA-Wise in falling to the Cavaliers, 33-30.  Wise returned a punt 40 yards for a touchdown with no time remaining to post the game-deciding score.  The Wasps offense continues to perform well as it collected 327 total yards.  William Pearl notched a pair of rushing touchdowns on the way to 50 yards on the ground.  Quarterback Kyle Boden threw for 209 yards and two touchdowns.  Adrian Jordan caught one of those scores as part of a seven-catch 124-yard day.  Defensively, four players notched double figure tackles including Devan Sproles (15), Jason Hill (14), Ed Smith (12) and Daniel Preston (11).  Hill picked off a pair of passes, while Tyler Houk also intercepted a pass.

Washington and Lee University experienced it first regular season loss in 10 games as the Generals fell to Centre College, 42-35.  The Generals and Colonels combined for 892 total yards of offense as both squads scored points in spurts.  W&L led 21-7 early and 28-14 in the third quarter, but Centre was able to claw back with 14 points each in the final three frames.  W&L ran for 339 yards on the day, led by 137 yards and a touchdown by Brett Murray.  Luke Heinsohn ran for two scores, and Sean Pantwell added one touchdown jaunt.  Quarterback Charlie Westfal ran for 96 yards and threw for a touchdown.  Defensively, Jake Pelton led the unit with 10 tackles, and Tyler Malone intercepted a pass.
