H-SC to Face Centre in NCAA First Round

Tigers One of 32 Teams in NCAA Field

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- The 2011 ODAC Champion Hampden-Sydney Tigers (8-2, 5-1 ODAC) will face the Centre College Colonels (9-1, 5-1 SCAC) in Danville, Kentucky in the First Round of the NCAA Division III Football Championship this Saturday. The Tigers received their automatic bid by winning the conference. Centre, on the other hand, was the recipient of an at large bid. Their one loss came to SCAC Champion Trinity.

The two teams have never met under head coach Marty Favret but have played 21 times overall. The Tigers hold a 15-5-1 advantage in the series that was first played in 1948 and last played in 1992. In that final meeting - the 1992 season opener at Fulton Field, head coach Joe Bush led the Tigers to a 21-7 victory.

Hampden-Sydney will enter the post season for the seventh time in school history and fourth time in five years. Centre College returns to the post season this year for the first time since 1921.

More information about Saturday's game will come out early this week. Kick-off is scheduled for 12:00 pm on Saturday, November 19.
