 Offensive Player of the Week

 Will McGhee| Randolph-Macon| Sr.| Running Back
McGhee, a senior from Fishersville, Va., picks up his second weekly award as he accounted for all four Randolph-Macon touchdowns in the Yellow Jackets' 27-21 triumph over Washington and Lee. McGhee ran for 189 yards on 31 carries, good enough for a 6.1 yard-per-carry average. He opened the game's scoring on R-MC's first drive with a 40-yard scamper. He made it 14-0 Jackets late in the second frame with a 16-yard burst. His third score was a 6-yard effort midway thru the third quarter for a 21-7 R-MC advantage. After W&L posted two touchdowns to knot the game at 21-all, McGhee capped an 11-play 66-yard drive with a 3-yard TD run with 3:26 to play to provide Randolph-Macon its winning margin. He accounted for 44 of the 66 yards on that drive. McGhee leads the ODAC with 1,006 rushing yards, needing just six games to become the first ODAC back to crack 1,000 yards this season.

 Defensive Player of the Week

 Anthony Albanese| Catholic| Sr.| Defensive End
Albanese, a senior from Long Valley, N.J., led a dominating defensive effort by Catholic as the Cardinals forced two turnovers and held Shenandoah to just 199 yards of total offense, including 90 yards thru the air, in a 37-7 road win. Albanese led the Cardinals with 11 total tackles including five solo stops. He was in the Hornets' backfield for much of the afternoon, racking up 3.5 tackles for a loss that cost SU 15 yards of offense. Included in that total was a quarterback sack to end the first half of play. He had two other stops of no gain, bringing his totals to six defensive plays where SU either lost or did not gain any yards. Albanese is currently #1 in the ODAC with seven sacks, which have cost opposing offenses a league-high 57 yards of offense. His 26 solo tackles are fifth in the league, while his 42 total stops rank 10th.

Team News and Notes

BRIDGEWATER's offense came alive late in the game on Saturday, but it was too little, too late and the Eagles' defense couldnt get off of the field in critical situations in a 21-14 loss to Guilford on Saturday. The loss drops Bridgewater into relatively unchartered territory as the Eagles sit at 0-3 for the first since since 1998. The loss for Bridgewater also marks the program's first three-game skid since the 2008 season and marks back-to-back wins for Guilford in the series for the first time since the Quakers upended Bridgewater in 1997 and 1998. Guilford took a 14-0 lead in the first half before Bridgewater got on the board late in the second quarter on a 10-yard run by Willie Logan. The Quakers added a score in the third to regain a 14-point edge. A Logan to Jeffrey Moore 18-yard touchdown pass brought BC back to within seven with six minutes to play, but the Quakers were able to grind off the remainder of the clock in a 21-14 Guilford win.  Jacob Wright ran for 122 yards on 23 carries to lead the offense.  Defensively, BC gave up a modest 360 yards of offense, although 180 came on the ground.  Andrew Palmer led the unit with 10 tackles including a TFL.

NEXT WEEK: at Washington and Lee (3-3, 1-2 ODAC) - 1:30 p.m.
Washington and Lee and Bridgewater will be meeting for the 44th time on Saturday, with the Generals holding a 25-18 advantage in the all-time series that began during the 1964 season.  Both teams have experienced extended winning streaks in the series, with W&L winning the first nine matchups and then seven in a row from 1993-99.  Bridgewater won four straight from 1989-92 and then ripped off seven consecutive wins from 2000-06.  The Eagles snapped a two-game losing streak to W&L last season, recording a 31-14 victory at Jopson Field.  Four turnovers hurt the Generals, although they did run for 385 yards.  Bridgewater had the big play on its side including passing touchdowns of 85 and 66 yards as well as a 55-yard interception return for a score.

CATHOLIC's offense exploded for 519 yards of offense in Saturday's 37-7 road win at Shenandoah.  That total includes 326 yards rushing, led by a pair of 100-yard rushers.  Mike Pitseberger ran for 199 yards and three touchdowns on 36 carries, while Nick Cortese toted the ball 20 times for 138 yards.  Quarterback TJ Tutone threw a pair of touchdown passes to Alex Evans, who caught six passes for 86 yards.  Tutone was 10-of-13 passing for 123 yards.  Defensively, CUA limited Shenandoah to just 199 yards of total offense, including only 90 yards thru the air.  Anthony Albanese led the unit with 11 stops that included 3.5 tackles for a loss of 15 yards and a sack.  Conor Stueckler made nine stops, while Mike Skehill forced and recovered a fumble in addition to his seven stops.

NEXT WEEK: vs. Emory & Henry (3-3, 0-3 ODAC) - 1:00 p.m.
Emory & Henry will travel to Our Nation’s Capital next Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. ODAC contest with Catholic University.  The Cardinals have won four of the last six with the Wasps with the series being tied, 8-8.  Last year, Emory & Henry came back from a 14-0 deficit in the second quarter to beat Catholic 15-14 on Homecoming Day.  Matt Turchin tied his own school record with a trio of field goals including the game-winner which was partially blocked but still found its way through the uprights with 10 seconds to go.  Kyle Boden connected with Lucas Kirby for an 11-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter for the Wasps’ only touchdown of the day. Michael Pitsenberger had a pair of touchdowns for the Cardinals.

EMORY & HENRY picked up 312 yards of total offense, but committed three turnovers as Wasps fell, 33-12, to Hampden-Sydney … Junior running back Joe Vaughn had 87 yards on 18 carries while freshman running back Jonathan Turpin had a one-yard plunge for a score in his only carry of the game … Senior quarterback Kyle Boden had his 10-game streak with at least one touchdown pass snapped as he was 20-for-37 passing for 196 yards... Boden found senior wideout Chad Williams six times for 74 yards and hit junior Lucas Kirby on five different occasions for 51 yards … Emory & Henry scored on three of its four trips to the red zone….Defensively, E&H allowed 360 yards to Hampden-Sydney … The Tigers’ balanced attack kept the Wasps guessing as H-SC had big plays both through the air and on the ground … Junior linebacker Randall Conley had a team-high eight tackles and added 1.5 tackles for loss and a quarterback hurry … Senior defensive back DeMikael Burse notched seven stops and had an interception, a pass breakup and a blocked PAT which sophomore linebacker Rennel Marshall returned for a defensive two-point conversion … Junior safety Roth Healey and junior linebacker Paul Forney each had six tackles in the game while Forney added a half sack and a quarterback hurry … Marshall finished the day with four stops.

NEXT WEEK: at Catholic (4-2, 1-2 ODAC) - 1:00 p.m.

GUILFORD quarterback Matt Pawlowski passed for 180 yards and two touchdowns in Guilford's 21-14 win at Bridgewater, the Quakers' first at Jopson Field since 1997... he threw touchdown passes of two and 13 yards to Josh Williams and Hayden Read, respectively... added 37 rushing yards on 10 carries and finished with 217 total offensive yards... extended his streak of games without an interception to five... Pawlowski helped Guilford convert nine of 15 third-down plays by completing five of six third-down passes and rushing for two third downs. Two of his third-down completions and one of his third-down rushes helped Guilford run the final 6:03 off the clock after Bridgewater drew to within 21-14...Josh Schow rushed for over 100 yards and a touchdown for the sixth straight game. He finished with 114 yards on 27 carries and scored on a one-yard run in the second quarter. Schow's six straight 100-yard rushing games rank second in school history. His nine rushing TDs stand third on Guilford's all-time season list and his career-high 816 rushing yards rank 8th in school history…defensively, Satiir Stevenson led Guilford with a season- and game-high 11 tackles... also returned two punts for 18 yards... his 14-yard third-quarter return helped the Quakers start what proved to be the game-winning TD drive from the BC 49 yard line... raised his season tackles total to a team-high 47… Sophomore JerMario Gooch produced his team-leading third interception of the season with a stunning one-handed grab on the Quakers' five-yard line to stop a Bridgewater drive early in the third quarter... his three thefts mark a career high... sophomore cornerback Karl Roberts made a career-high nine tackles and broke up a pass at Bridgewater.

NEXT WEEK: vs. Randolph-Macon (5-1, 3-0 ODAC) - 1:00 p.m.
Guilford hosts Randolph-Macon in a battle of 3-0 ODAC teams. Randolph-Macon leads the all-time series, 31-22-2. Guilford won last year's game, 38-35, in Ashland, by scoring the game's final 17 points.  Randolph-Macon led 35-21 midway thru the third quarterback, but two Matt Pawlowski touchdown passes sandwiched a Tyler Hunt field goal to push GC to victory.  Pawlowski threw for 354 yards and four TDs in the win. Adam Smith made 10 grabs for 190 yards and two scores, including a 65-yard TD catch on the game's first offensive play.  Zac  Naccarato threw for 278 yards and three scores for R-MC.  Running back Will McGhee ran for 158 yards and a touchdown.

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY head coach Marty Favret become the second coach in Hampden-Sydney history and the second active ODAC coach (BC’s Mike Clark) to win 100 games with a 33-12 victory over Emory & Henry. In the win, the Tigers tallied 360 yards of offense on 225 through the air and 135 rushing. Hampden-Sydney scored the first touchdown of the game just over a minute and a half in, but trailed 9-6 after the first quarter. Two touchdowns in the second quarter to the Wasps’ field goal gave the Tigers a 19-12 lead at half. Junior quarterback Nash Nance was 21-of-32 for 225 yards, three touchdowns and one interception; he also ran in a touchdown to go with 20 rushing yards. Junior tight end Joey Druhan was the top receiver with 79 yards and a touchdown on four catches while junior Holton Walker hauled in six passes for 55 yards and a score. On the ground, Chris Shembo and Brady Macko spearheaded the attack; Shembo ran 53 yards and a touchdown on seven carries while Macko rushed ten times for 62 yards. Michael Bazemore had five tackles including two sacks and a forced fumble that led to a touchdown.  Shreve Rohle notched his second consecutive ten-tackle game. Robert Stack and Tyler Ikwild had nine and eight stops, each. Josh Doggett and John Moore each tallied seven stops. Charlie Shoemaker picked off a pass and returned it 43 yards, setting up a Hampden-Sydney score.

NEXT WEEK: vs. Shenandoah (2-4, 1-2 ODAC) - 1:00 p.m.
Hampden-Sydney will host Shenandoah Saturday for the first time ever in the two schools' second meeting. The series began in 2012 with the Tigers taking a 42-21 victory at Shentel Stadium.  Eight of the game's nine touchdowns were scored on the ground, with H-SC back Evan King leading the way with 115 rushing yards and four total touchdowns (3 rush, 1 rec).  After SU led 7-0 following the first quarter, H-SC put up 14 points in each of the remaining three quarters on the way to its fifth win of the season.

RANDOLPH-MACON got four touchdowns from running back Will McGhee -- one in each quarter -- to account for all of R-MC's scores (save for extra points) in a 27-21 triumph over Washington and Lee.  McGhee ran for 189 yards on 31 carries, good for a 6.1 yards per carry average.  It also marked his fifth straight game with 123 yards or more on the ground.  His efforts helped R-MC hold a slim advantage in time of possession (30:58-29:02), a tough chore when facing W&L's run-heavy offense. Zac Naccarato was efficient with limited passing attempts, completing 14-of-18 passes for 146 yards.  Defensively, Eric Long led the unit with 10 stops, while Marcus Mitchell had a pair of tackles for a loss including a sack.
