 Offensive Player of the Week

 E.J. Montgomery| Catholic| So.| Quarterback
Montgomery, a sophomore from Fulton, Md., put together a five-touchdown day in leading the Cardinals to a 38-29 win over Guilford, which put CUA back over the .500 at 5-4 overall on the year. Montgomery was a dual threat under center, throwing for 180 yards and four touchdowns while also leading Catholic in rushing with 129 yards and another score on the ground. Montgomery kicked off the game's scoring with a 4-yard touchdown pass to Alex Evans that capped a 16-play 73-yard opening drive. He also connected on touchdown passes with Nick Cortese, Mike Pitsenberger and Andrew Ouellette, with the latter covering 37-yards. He and Ouellette teamed up for 12 receptions and 117 yards. Montgomery notched the game's final touchdown with 2:20 to play, increasing CUA's lead from three to nine points. Montgomery has completed 62.3-percent of his passes (114-of-183) for 1,060 yards and 12 touchdowns this season.

 

 Defensive Player of the Week

 Paul Forney| Emory & Henry| Jr.| Linebacker
Forney, a junior from Newton, N.C., helped the Wasps to a 37-20 win at Shenandoah on Saturday, moving Emory & Henry back over .500 at 5-4 overall. Forney notched a season-high 16 tackles, including eight solo stops, to move him into solo second with 83 total tackles in the ODAC. One of his stops came with 15-seconds remaining in the first half as he stopped SU's running back at the 1-yard line on fourth-and-goal to preserve E&H's 28-14 halftime lead. Forney also had one of three interceptions by the Wasps defense. His pick came in the fourth quarter with Shenandoah at the E&H 33-yard line trailing 30-20. Seven plays later, E&H scored the game's final touchdown towards the 37-20 win. In addition to ranking second in total tackles, Forney is second in assisted stops (41) and tied for first in interceptions (3) and fumble recoveries (3).

Team News and Notes

BRIDGEWATER controlled play and limited the opportunities for the Randolph-Macon offense, but the Eagles couldn't hold the Yellow Jackets off of the scoreboard in the final seconds of the game in a 35-34 loss. Bridgewater took the early lead as the Eagles limited Randolph-Macon to just six plays in the first quarter of play. Bridgewater led by a 13-7 tally at the break, before the two teams traded scores in the second half with Randolph-Macon owning a 35-34 lead with 29 ticks to play. The Eagles moved into field goal range in the waning moments of the contest, but Chandler DeHaven's kick had distance but missed wide to the right as the Yellow Jackets escaped with a one-point win to remain in the conference title hunt. Willie Logan led the Bridgewater offense with 337 yards passing and two touchdowns on a 24-for-34 afternoon. Defensively, senior linebackers Andrew Palmer posted 14 tackles, including seven solo stops in the loss.

Bridgewater hosts Catholic in the regular season finale for both teams in the 23rd meeting between the two squads. The Eagles own the all-time series against the Cardinals with a 16-6 record. Bridgewater has won the last 13 games in the series, including last season's 42-14 victory in the nation's capital. The Eagles forced six Catholic turnovers, while Willie Logan threw for 245 yards and two scores in the win. Catholic took the first game in series history in 1950 behind a 32-0 victory. Bridgewater won its first game against the Cardinals in 1979 with a 16-0 win to start a four-game streak against Catholic. The longest winning streak in the series for the Cardinals came on a four-game winning streak which began in 1983 and concluded with three straight wins from 1997-99.
 
CATHOLIC got a five-touchdown day from quarterback E.J. Montgomery as the Cardinals topped Guilford, 38-29, at home.  The game was still in the balance in the fourth quarter as GC led 29-26 at the outset, but a TD pass to Mike Pitsenberger and 4-yard run by Montgomery secured the win for the Cardinals.  Montgomery threw for four touchdowns and 180 yards, while also leading CUA with 129 yards rushing and another score.  Pitsenberger added 125 yards on the ground with two TDs --- one rushing and one receiving.  Andrew Ouellette caught a season-high 12 passes for 117 yards and a score.  He's caught 22 passes over the past two weeks, racking up 191 yards.  Alex Evans and Nick Cortese also caught TDs against Guilford.  Defensively, Conor Stueckler led the unit with 10 stops and 1.5 sacks of the Cardinals four sacks on the day.  Patrick Nilsen also had 1.5 sacks, while Jeremy Shiner and Mark D'Annibale notched a half-sack each.

EMORY & HENRY got back on track with a 37-20 win over Shenandoah at Sprint Stadium on Saturday … It was the first-ever trip by the Wasps to Winchester and only the second meeting between the two schools … The Wasps (5-4, 2-4 ODAC) gained 450 yards of total offense, 316 of which came from senior quarterback Kyle Boden … Boden threw for 245 yards and three touchdowns on 15-of-28 passing and added another touchdown on the ground to go along  with 71 rushing yards …Junior running backs Joe Vaughn and Kasey Jones had 73 and 62 yards rushing, respectively as Vaughn added a touchdown … Junior wide receiver Lucas Kirby caught five passes for 92 yards and a touchdown while senior Cleo Cooper and sophomore Jacob Hess also had receptions for scores … With the win, E&H has solidified its sixth-straight season with five or more wins.  The Emory & Henry defense allowed 300 yards by Shenandoah, but picked off three passes in the second half en route to a 17-point victory…  The Wasps stopped Shenandoah on fourth and goal from the three yardline with just seconds remaining in the first half to preserve their 28-14 lead… Junior linebacker Paul Forney, who made that stop, had a season-high 16 tackles and added an interception … Junior defensive back Clint Peregoy and sophomore corner Ryan Byrd also had interceptions that they returned for 35 and 40 yards, respectively, as Byrd added two tackles for loss …Senior defensive end Cody Williams and sophomore linebacker Rennel Marshall both added seven stops.

The rivalry is the most-played in Guilford football history, with the Wasps holding a 38-26 lead in the all-time series.  E&H has won seven straight contests agains the Quakers, including last season's meeting in Emory.  Emory & Henry's Kyle Boden threw four touchdowns in last season's 38-10 contest as the Wasps' scored the game's final 38 points. Boden completed 22-of-35 passes for 323 yards. Matt Pawlowski completed 22-of-46 passes for 323 yards. Guilford's Adam Smith made nine catches for 170 yards.
 
GUILFORD quarterback Matt Pawlowski passed for two touchdowns and ran for one in Guilford's loss at Catholic.... did not throw an interception for the sixth time this season... threw at least two touchdowns for the seventh time this season... moved into fourth place on Guilford's career passing yardage list (4,458)... moved into third place on Guilford's all-time list with 35 touchdown passes... Josh Schow picked up 94 yards on 19 carries. He also ran for a 12-yard touchdown, his 10th of the season, which ranks second in school history. Schow cleared the 1,000-yard rushing mark for the first time in his career and has 1,010 yards this year, which stands fourth in school history.... rookie Donnie Alexander, Jr., caught his first college touchdown pass at Catholic and became the sixth different Quaker to catch a touchdown pass this year.   Daytwyn Rascoe (18), Satiir Stevenson (16), Ricky Douglas (16) and Alex Smith (12) each recorded career highs in tackles... Guilford set a school record with four blocked kicks against Catholic. Rookie receiver Ke'Desh Edwards blocked two PATs and a 25-yard field goal attempt. Wes Johnson made the other block on a PAT.

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY tallied 367 yards of offense behind 202 passing and 165 rushing to defeat the Generals of Washington & Lee University 35-22 in the final game at Everett Stadium this season. The Tigers jumped ahead 14-0 and never looked back, leading the entire game. For the second straight week, junior quarterback Nash Nance accounted for five of the team’s touchdowns, running for three and throwing two more. He was also very efficient, completing 17 of his 23 passes for 202 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. He also ran 11 times for 88 yards and three scores. Junior Holton Walker was the game’s leading receiver with seven catches for 102 yards and two touchdowns, which were scored within a minute of each other with less than two minutes to play in the first half. Senior back Chris Shembo had a very productive day, rushing for 95 yards on 11 attempts while also adding 17 receiving yards on two catches. Defensively, the Tigers allowed 350 yards offense with 272 coming on the ground and 78 through the air. As a unit, the defense also forced three turnovers with Josh Doggett, Steven Fogleman, and Michael Bazemore all recovering fumbles. Tyler Ikwild led the way with a game-high 15 tackles, including two-for-loss. Doggett tallied 13 stops, and Robert Stack notched ten tackles. John Moore and Charlie Shoemaker had nine and eight tackles, respectively.

The rivalry is the Oldest Small School Rivalry in the South and began in 1893 with the Tigers holding a 60-47-11 advantage. The Yellow Jackets, however, are winners of the last two, including the teams' last meeting at Day Field – a 48-34 Randolph-Macon victory.
 
RANDOLPH-MACON kept its title hopes alive with a come-from-behind win over Bridgewater with a touchdown with 29-seconds to play.  The win sets up a meeting with Hampden-Sydney where the Yellow Jackets will be looking for their eighth ODAC crown and third NCAA bid.  In Saturday's win over BC, running back Will McGhee moved into fifth in the ODAC's all-time single season rushing list with 157 more yards and a touchdown to give him 1,478 yards on the season.  That ranks second in school history, behind the 1,551 yards posted by Zak Thornton in 2007.  McGhee also has 14 rushing touchdowns, one shy of the program record by Remon Smith.  Quarterback Zac Naccarato notched the winning touchdown, while Seth Yurgel hit the extra point that put R-MC ahead for its 35-34 win.  Naccarato threw for one scored and rushed for three more.  His touchdown pass went to Greg Petrohovich (4 rec. for 93 yds), a play that covered 51 yards.  He also threw a two-point pass to Matt Williamson to give R-MC a lead at that point at 22-19.  Defensively, Deshaun Rogers led the unit with 10 tackles, while Tom Solak had seven stops including two TFLs and a quarterback sack.

SHENANDOAH suffered three turnovers and was stopped on fourth-and-goal just 15-seconds before halftime in falling to E&H, 37-20.  Andrew Smith moved to within striking distance of 1,000 rushing yards on the season with 112 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries Saturday.  He now has 824 yards and eight TDs rushing, while also racking up 1,538 all-purpose yards --- the second-most in the ODAC --- and 11 total touchdowns.  Quarterback Drew Ferguson also had a rushing TD against E&H, while Justin Neff threw a scoring pass to Smith.  Defensively, Sean Blackman led the unit with nine tackles, while Jake Payne notched 1.5 sacks.  Evan Griffin had 1.0 sacks, and Michael Messick recorded a half-sack.

Washington and Lee and Shenandoah have met just once on the gridiron, as the Generals claimed a 42-23 win last season on Wilson Field.  The Generals jumped out to a 35-10 lead and cruised to the win despite resting several starters with the 2012 ODAC title already wrapped up.  Sasha Vandalov rushed for 79 yards and three touchdowns for W&L and Andrew Smith tallied 112 yards and two touchdowns on the ground for SU.

WASHINGTON AND LEE's loss to Hampden-Sydney eliminated the Generals from contention for the ODAC title.  Saturday's game at Shenandoah will be W&L's first game without ODAC title implications since the 2009 season.  The Generals three ODAC losses this season are one more than W&L had lost in the prior three seasons combined.  Senior quarterback Nick Lombardo returned from injury against Hampden-Sydney and threw for a season-best 78 yards on just three completions.  He also rushed for 70 yards and a touchdown on 26 carries.  Lombardo now claims 2,090 career rushing yards, which ranks ninth in school history.  First-year running back Marshall Hollerith ran for 137 yards and two touchdowns on a season-high 37 carries against Hampden-Sydney.  The game marked the fifth time this season that Hollerith has eclipsed 100 yards rushing and was his third game with multiple rushing touchdowns.  Hollerith currently leads the team in rushing with 899 yards and 11 touchdowns on 175 carries.  A win against Shenandoah on Saturday would give W&L its eighth winning season in the last 10 years.
