All eight conference teams opened the ODAC portions of their
schedules in week five, with three squads remaining undefeated.
Bridgewater College, Emory & Henry College and Guilford
College each moved to 4-0 overall after winning their league
openers. Hampden-Sydney College also proved victorious,
moving to 3-1.
Three games started at 1:00 p.m. ET, including Emory & Henry
as the Wasps dedicated their grandstand to legendary head coach Lou
Wacker in a ceremony in their home opener on Saturday.
E&H came away with a 38-28 triumph. Hampden-Sydney
made the trip to Washington, D.C., where the Tigers defeated
Catholic University, 62-14. Guilford welcomed Washington and
Lee University to Greensboro and defeated the Generals, 52-28.
Bridgewater and Shenandoah University played in the lone night
game, which also proved to be the closest contest. A
back-and-forth affair came down to the Eagles getting a pair of
defensive stops after taking the lead with 3:39 to play on the way
to posting a 27-23 win.
Guilford athletes earned both ODAC weekly awards with running back
De'Eric Bell (pictured) and defensive back Satiir Stevenson taking
home the honors. Bell ran for an ODAC weekly-best 149 yards
and two touchdowns in addition to catching five passes for 93 yards
and another score. Stevenson notched an ODAC season-high and
Guilford program-record 22 tackles to go along with his third
interception of the season, which also marked his 13th career
pick.
All ODAC squads are back in action next week with four league
contests. Catholic heads to Randolph-Macon for a Friday
evening affair at 6:00 p.m. in Ashland. The remaining three
contests take place at 1:00 p.m. ET on Saturday. Bridgewater
and Emory & Henry put their undefeated records on the line in
Bridgewater. Guilford makes its way up north to take on
Shenandoah, and Hampden-Sydney heads 90 miles west to Washington
and Lee.
