 Offensive Player of the Week

 Matt Pawlowski| Guilford| Jr.| Quarterback
Pawlowski, a junior from Greensboro, N.C., helped lead Guilford to its second win of the year by posting a career-high 418 yards and six touchdowns thru the air against Methodist. The Quakers put up 50 or more points for the second straight game, marking the second time they've done that in back-to-back games in school history. Pawlowski hit 10 different receivers in his 28-of-39 (71.8%) overall passing performance. He led Guilford to scoring drives on its first eight possessions. In the first half alone, Pawlowski exploded for five touchdowns and 328 yards on 19-of-29 passing. Pawlowski's penchant for taking care of the football has continued into 2014 as he has thrown 10 touchdown passes without an interception thru the first two games of the season. In 2013, Pawlowski threw the ball away just three times against 24 touchdown passes over 308 total pass attempts. He's thrown the ball 67 times so far this season, completing 73.1-percent of his passes.

 Defensive Player of the Week

 Roth Healey| Emory & Henry| Sr.| Defensive Back
Healey, a senior from Easton, Pa., helped lead the Wasps to a come-from-behind 14-13 win at Maryville College (Tenn.) on Saturday. The Wasps trailed 13-0 with just over two minutes left in the third quarter when Healey put E&H's first points on the board. With the Scots driving deep in Wasps' territory, quarterback Evan Pittenger lost the ball as he was scrambling. Healey picked it up and sprinted 72-yards, beating the Maryville offense to the pilon for a touchdown. That fumble was one of four turnovers by Maryville as the Scots threw three interceptions, with one corralled by Healey in the first half. Healey tied for game-high honors with nine tackles, including six solo. He also recorded a tackle for a loss and broke up a pass in the fourth quarter. Healy has 16 tackles thru the first two games of the season.

Guilford and Southern Virginia renew their series after taking a two year hiatus.  This will be the sixth meeting between the two foes with Guilford leading the all-time series, 3-2.  SVU has won each of the past two meetings, including the last outing in 2011.  The Knight's enter Saturday evening's matchup following their bye week.  They fell to Methodist, 36-21, the previous week in their season-opener.  This year's Guilford/SVU contest will be played in Salem Stadium in Salem, Va., home of the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl.

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, ranked 24th in the latest D3football.com poll, won their seventh consecutive home opener, 35-30, over CNU. The game had three ties and three lead changes, and it was the Tiger defense that came up with the big stop on fourth-and-10 in the red zone to clinch the victory. Junior safety Larry Haskins had a big day with two interceptions to go with two tackles. Josh Doggett led the way with nine stops, while Rohle, Nick Martin, and Tyler Palmer all had six stops.

NEXT WEEK: vs. Coast Guard (1-1, 0-0 NEFC) - 1:00 p.m.

Randolph-Macon stays home next weekend as the Yellow Jackets welcome Sewanee to Ashland.  Both teams enter the contest with 1-1 records.  Sewanee rebounded from a season-opening loss at DePauw (31-13) to topple Washington and Lee, 21-19, in the Tigers home opener.  Randolph-Macon did the same, making amends for a loss at Johns Hopkings (42-3) with a thumping of Averett, 48-16, in its home opener.

SHENANDOAH fell to 1-1 on the season with a 20-10 home loss to Frostburg State University.  The Bobcats led 13-3 in the third quarter, but a Kye Hopkins 1-yard TD run brought the Hornets to within three points with just under four minutes to go in the third frame.  FSU tacked on a touchdown early in the four quarter, which marked the last score of the game.  Hopkins' touchdown capped a 16-play 77-yard drive for SU.  He ran for 39 yards on the day, but it was a 64-yard burst that helped Cedrick Delaney lead all players with 135 yards on the ground.  Michael Messick led SU defensively with 10 stops including 2.5 tackles for a loss.  Michael Wroble forced and recovered a fumble to go with nine tackles.

NEXT WEEK: vs. Ferrum (0-1, 0-0 USA South) - 7:00 p.m.

Shenandoah and Ferrum meet for the 15 time on Saturday evening as the Panthers make the trip up to Winchester.  Ferrum owns an 11-3 advantage in the all-time series, which began in 2000 when the two schools were both members of the USA South.  Shenandoah broke a string of eight-straight wins for Ferrum by travelling south for a 43-29 road win.  In that game, the Hornets ran for 298 yards powered by 185 from Andrew Smith.  SU trailed Ferrum, 14-0, thru the first quarter, but the Hornets outscored the Panthers, 43-15, for the remainder of the contest.

WASHINGTON AND LEE saw a nine-game winning streak snapped against Sewanee with a 21-19 loss to the Tigers on Saturday.  The Generals managed just 288 yards of total offense, their lowest offensive output since a 16-7 loss to Guilford last Oct. 5.  The 186 rushing yards represented the fewest rushing yards by the Generals in a game since compiling only 178 rushing yards in a 20-10 loss to Averett on Sept. 25, 2010.  Sophomore running back Marshall Hollerith led the way with 112 yards on 22 carries, his seventh 100-yard rushing effort in 12 career games.  Moody Heard led the W&L defense with an ODAC-weekly best 11 stops including 3.0 tackles for a loss.  Max Garrett intercepted a pass.

NEXT WEEK: vs. Centre (2-0, 0-0 SAA) - 7:00 p.m.
W&L and Centre will be meeting for the 63rd time, with the Colonels holding a 36-24-2 advantage in the all-time series that began during the 1897 season.  The two teams met every season from 1955-2006, but the series experienced a five-year hiatus until the teams met again starting in 2011. Centre has won six of the last nine meetings, including a 37-28 win last season in Danville, Ky.  W&L is 13-12-2 all-time against the Colonels in Lexington.  The Generals rushed for 422 yards in last season's contest, the only time that W&L has lost when rushing for over 400 yards since the beginning of the 2010 season.
