Nance completed 19-of-27 passes for 359 yards and three touchdowns. He completed passes to 10 different receivers, connecting with four wideouts on plays of 30-yards or more. Nance added to his day with 42 yards and two more touchdowns on 15 carries. His sixth touchdown came in a reversal of roles as he had a 31-yard catch-and-run from receiver Holton Walker early in the second quarter. On the season, Nance is second in the ODAC in touchdown passes (14), passing yardage (1,312) and completion percentage (102-of-155, 65.8%).

 Defensive Player of the Week

 Tre'von Lightfoot| Emory & Henry| So.| Defensive Back
Lightfoot, a sophomore from Big Island, Va., helped the Wasps move to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in league play by accounting for half the turnovers caused by the Emory & Henry defense. The Wasps for four turnovers, including three interceptions. Lightfoot came down with two of those takeaways in the second half, keeping the Eagles' offense at bay in E&H's 34-21 win. Lightfoot's first interception came late in the third quarter. His second pick early in the fourth quarter and quelled a possible scoring play as the BC receiver had gotten behind the defense, but Lightfoot recovered to make the leaping interception. Lightfoot added six total tackles, all solo. The interceptions were the first of the season for Lightfoot, helping the Wasps to an ODAC-best 10 as a team.

Team News and Notes

BRIDGEWATER fell to Emory & Henry by a 34-21 score on Saturday afternoon at the Jopson Athletic Complex. The loss to the Wasps was the first since 2008. After two scores early in the first quarter, the game looked like it would become a track meet with the game tied 7-7 after just six minutes of play. After that, the Eagles struggled offensively as the Wasps rolled up 27 unanswered points to run away with a 13-point victory. Junior Ross Rushing threw for 165 yards and a score to Logan Sullivan on 16-of-23 passing.  Jacob Wright ran for 88 yards and touchdown.  Defensively, senior Darrick Gore led the way with 13 tackles and three breakups. Lucas Elliott and Daniel Brent intercepted passes.

NEXT WEEK: at Guilford (4-1, 1-1 ODAC) - 1:00 p.m.
Two teams looking to rebound after tough losses will meet up on the gridiron as Bridgewater and Guilford square off for the 41st time on Saturday afternoon at the Armfield Athletic Center. The series dates back to 1936 when the Quakers defeated Bridgewater by a 20-13 tally. Guilford owns the series with a 23-17 mark against the Eagles after last season’s 21-14 victory over the Eagles at the Jopson Athletic Complex. The Quakers used an efficient offense to overcome a 200-plus yard effort from the Eagles on the ground and remain unbeaten in league play behind a seven-point win. The victory marked the second in a row for Guilford after Bridgewater claimed five games in a row in the series with the Quakers.
CATHOLIC lost its second straight contest on Saturday, fall on the road at Randolph-Macon, 42-21, on Friday evening.  R-MC's rushing game kept the CUA offense off the field as the Yellow Jackets commanded a 35:55-to-24:05 advantage in time of possession.  Matt Perno and Ben Powers ran for Cardinal touchdowns, with Perno leading the way with 56 yards on the ground.  Quarterback TJ Tutone threw for 149 yards and touchdown to Lucas Morley.  Defensively, Anthony Santo posted a game-best 13 tackles with one sack.  Dave Zarkoski forced a fumble, while Luke Puff recovered one.  Richard Roach also recorded a quarterback sack.

NEXT WEEK: vs. Shenandoah (3-2, 1-1 ODAC) - 1:00 p.m.
Catholic and Shenandoah will be meeting for the 11th time on Saturday, continuing a series that dates back to 1936.  Catholic owns a 7-3 advantage in the all-time series.  The Cardinals have won six of the past seven matchups, including last season's 37-7 victory in Winchester.  In that contest, CUA racked up 519 yards of offense behind 326 yards on the ground.  Shenandoah was held to 199 yards from scrimmage and suffered from a 35:20-to-24:40 deficit in time of possession.  Mike Pitsenberger led CUA with 199 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.  Nick Cortese (138) also crossed century mark.  Andrew Smith led the Hornets with 70 yards and a touchdown rushing.
EMORY & HENRY built a 34-7 lead thanks to 27 straight points as it defeated Bridgewater, 34-21, Saturday at the Jopson Athletic Complex.  Emory & Henry is now the only remaining undefeated college football team in the Commonwealth of Virginia.  It marked the first win for the Wasps over the Eagles since a 19-14 win in 2008, snapping a six-game skid.  It is also the first time that the Wasps are 5-0 since 1998 and the first 2-0 start to ODAC play since 2001.  Head coach Curt Newsome becomes the first E&H mentor since W.S. “Pedie” Jackson in 1927 to win his first five games as the head coach of the Wasps. Jackson went on to lead Emory & Henry to a 9-0 record that year and a 10-0 record in 1928.  E&H gained 467 yards of offense as quarterback Kevin Saxton threw for 266 yards and three touchdowns on 25-for-43 passing.  Running backs Chris Thompson and Isaiah Rodgers each ran for 81 yards and a score.  Wide receiver Josh Smith caught 11 passes for 79 yards and a touchdown while Lucas Kirby had six catches for 71 yards and a score.  Tight end Ashton Cline also added a receiving touchdown.  The defense forced four turnovers on the day as it held Bridgewater to seven points and just 251 yards in the opening three quarters of play.  The Wasps allowed only 5-of-16 third-down conversions and one-of-three fourth down tries.  Safety Roth Healey led the way once again with a team-high nine tackles and added an interception.  Corner Tre’von Lightfoot made six solo stops and had two interceptions while corner Ryan Byrd made seven stops.  Defensive lineman Chris Kernisky had 1.5 sacks while Andrew Long recovered a fumble.

NEXT WEEK: at Hampden-Sydney (4-1, 2-0 ODAC) - 1:00 p.m.
Emory & Henry and Hampden-Sydney put their undefeated conference marks on the line on Saturday as the foes continue a series that dates back to 1992.  The Wasps own a 36-34 advantage in the all-time series, but Hampden-Sydney has won each of the past six meetings and 11 of the past 12.  Emory & Henry won 14 straight matchups from 1988 thru 2001.  In last season's affair in Emory, H-SC claimed a 33-12 win behind three touchdown passes and a rushing score from Nash Nance.  The last time the two squads squared off in Hampden-Sydney, the Tigers posted a 47-17 decision.
GUILFORD receiver Adam Smith caught five passes for a game- and season-high 149 yards and two touchdowns in Guilford's road loss to Shenandoah... averaged nearly 30 yards per catch.. now has a career-high 10 touchdown catches, sixth best on the Quakers' season list... his 23 career touchdown catches also stand sixth on the Quakers' career TD receptions chart... has three 100-yard receiving games this year, 11 for his career, fourth-best in school history... Smith's 2,187 career receiving yards stand eighth all-time at Guilford... Matt Pawlowski passed for a career-high 460 yards and three scores in Guilford's road loss to Shenandoah... his 460 passing yards mark the fourth-highest total in school history... passed for over 300 yards for the fourth straight game... completed passes to eight different receivers... moved into sixth place on Guilford's single-season passing touchdown list (22)... Pawlowski threw three interceptions in a game for the first time in his career, which matches his total number of picks in 2013. They were also his first interceptions of the season and ended his streak of 242 pass attempts without an interception, which dated to Nov. 2, 2013. Freshman De'Eric Bell, who started his second game in place of injured ODAC rushing leader Josh Schow, made a career-high six catches for 82 yards.  Defensively, Satiir Stevenson made a game-high 12 tackles... had 10 solo stops, a career high, and also broke up a pass... Saturday's game at Shenandoah ended the Quakers' streak of consecutive games with an interception and forced turnover at five.

NEXT WEEK: at Washington and Lee (0-5, 0-2 ODAC) - 1:00 p.m.

Washington and Lee and Randolph-Macon will be meeting for the 63rd time, with the Yellow Jackets leading the all-time series 30-29-3 since it began in 1903.  The Generals have won three of the last four games against R-MC, but the Yellow Jackets earned the victory last season by a score of 27-21 in Ashland.  W&L has won seven straight against Randolph-Macon in Lexington, with the last loss coming during the 1998 season.  Running back Will McGhee led R-MC to the win, racking up 189 yards on the ground and all four of the Yellow Jackets' touchdowns, including the game-winner with 3:26 to play.  W&L ran for 331 yards overall, led by quarterback Nick Lombardo's 194 yards and one score.
SHENANDOAH shook up the ODAC standings on Saturday as the Hornets defeated previously unbeaten Guilford College, 47-31, in Winchester.  While SU trailed in total offense, 521-to-350 yards, SU got two defensive touchdowns and a special teams score to aid the offense.  Dieon DuPont started the game by returning the opening kickoff 92 yards for a score.  Coming out of halftime with a 25-10 lead, Josh White returned an interception 35-yards for a touchdown -- his second pick six of the season -- and Leonard Scott caught a 67-yard TD pass from Drew Ferguson to pu the Hornets ahead 38-10 early in the third quarter.  Cedrick Bridges capped the game's scoring by returning an interception 52-yards to paydirt.  GC quarterback Matt Pawlowski hadn't thrown an interception all season until he threw three in this game, with Malik Sims adding a takeaway to those by White and Bridges.  SU's defense was in the backfield all game as the Hornets sacked Pawlowski eight times.  Brandon Thompson accounted for three of those, cost GC 21 yards of offense.  Cedrick Delaney led SU's offense with 118 yards and a touchdown rushing.  Kye Hopkins ran for 73 yards and another score.

NEXT WEEK: at Catholic (2-3, 0-2 ODAC) - 1:00 p.m.

WASHINGTON AND LEE's defense surrendered its most points to Hampden-Sydney in the history of the series in Saturday's 55-32 win over the Generals.  It marked the first time in the history of the W&L football program that the Generals have allowed 50 points in consecutive games.  Prior to last week, W&L had not allowed 50 points in a game since 1979.  First-year running back Walker Brand returned nine kickoffs in the game for a total of 181 kickoff return yards. The nine returns are a new school record, eclipsing the former mark of seven which occurred twice.  The 181 kickoff return yards are the second-highest total in program history, just 12 yards shy of the mark set by Stuart Sitterson against the Tigers in 2007.  This is W&L's first 0-5 start to a season since the 1993 team began the season with six straight losses.  The Generals are currently on a seven-game losing streak dating back to last season.  The last seven-game losing streak was across the 1992-93 seasons.

NEXT WEEK: vs. Randolph-Macon (3-2, 1-1 ODAC) - 1:00 p.m.
