Offensive Player of the Week
Matt Pawlowski| Guilford| Jr.| Quarterback
Pawlowski, a junior from Greensboro, N.C., helped the Quakers wrap up their first 8-2 season since 1997 with a 52-28 win at Emory & Henry. Pawlowski threw for 389 yards and five touchdowns on 38-of-48 passing, good for a 79.2-percent completion rate. He also ran for 43 yards. He completed passes to nine different receivers. Austen Thompson was his favorite taret, hauling in 10 passes for 71 yards and three touchdowns. Pawlowski threw TD passes of 21, 49, 3, 8, and 13 yards. The latter three came in the final 23 minutes of the contest as the Quakers out-scored E&H, 28-7, to the final horn. For the season, Pawlowski set Guilford records for passing touchdowns (38) and completion percentage (67.8), leading the ODAC in both. He also led the conference passing yardage (3,476) and yards per game (347.6). He only threw three interceptions, good for one every 123 pass attempts. Pawlowski threw for 300 yards in a game eight times, and had four or more TDs in a game on six occasions.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Michael Shields| Washington and Lee| Fr.| Defensive Back
Shields, a freshman from Charlotte, N.C., helped the Generals finish their season with a 40-23 victory over Shenandoah. He posted a team-high 11 tackles, including 10 solo stops. His biggest play came on the Hornets' first possession of the game. After SU had driven to the W&L four-yard line on 10 plays, Shields turned the ball over for the Generals on the 11th. He forced and recovered his own fumble at the one-yard line, denying a potential Shenandoah touchdown on first-and-goal and maintaining Washington and Lee's early 7-0 lead. For his rookie season, Shields recorded 41 tackles, an interception, and blocked a kick.
BRIDGEWATER senior running back Jacob Wright
rushed for a career-high four touchdowns while the Eagles defense
pitched a first half shutout and forced three turnovers as the
Bridgewater Eagles football team rolled past Catholic, 40-13. The
victory capped off a four-game turnaround for the Eagles and sends
the team into the offseason on a four-game winning streak.
Bridgewater opened up a 26-0 lead before the two teams traded
touchdowns in the second half. Wright's four TDs mark the
most by an ODAC back this season. He finished the season with
1,013 rushing yards, one of three ODAC running backs to break the
1,000-yard mark. He's the 13th back in BC history to do so.
His 17 rushing touchdowns topped the conference. BC
quarterbacks Ross Rushing (1,308 and 9) and Matt Pisarcik (1,013
and 10) combined to throw for 2,321 yards and 19 touchdowns this
season. Jeffrey Moore led the receivers with 45 receptions
for 486 yards. Cliff Woodard cuaght at team-best seven
touchdowns. Defensively, Lucas Elliott notched nine tackles
and picked off a pass in the fourth quarter in the Eagles' win at
CUA. It was his third interception in the year. Darrick
Gore had a team-high 13 stops. Gore finished second on the
team overall with 87 tackles to go with four interceptions.
Alex Collins led the unit with 92 tackles, which ranks fourth
in the ODAC. Kenneth Szabo leads the ODAC with 8.0
quarterback sacks.
CATHOLIC saw its season come to a
close with a 40-13 home loss to Bridgewater on Saturday.
Quarterback TJ Tutone threw for 249 yards and touchdowns.
He fired one TD pass to Tim Murphy and the other to Jeremy
McGriff. Murphy had two catches for 58 yards, while Evan
Calvo hauled in four passes for 43 yards. McGriff's TD catch
was one of four on the day. Matt Perno led the rushing attack
with 43 yards on five carries. He finished the season with a
team-best 728 yards on the ground. Tutone threw 16 touchdown
passes on the season, racking up 2,371 yards thru the air.
Murphy led the receivers with 37 catches for 470 yards and
four touchdowns. Defensively, Patrick Thomas led against BC
with 10 tackles. Matthew Barton came away with a quarterback
sack. Thomas finished second on the team with 60 total
tackles. Anthony Santo led with 71 stops. Barton and
James Mooney posted a team-high 2.0 sacks, while Richard Roach led
the Cards with a pair of interceptions.
EMORY & HENRY concluded the season with an 8-2
(5-2 ODAC) record after dropping its season finale to Guilford,
52-58. The Wasps fall to the Quakers for a second straight
year after winning the previous five contests. E&H posted
an eight-win season and five league victories for the first time
since the 2000 season. The Wasps just missed a trip to the
NCAA Division III Tournament. E&H instead finishes in a
four-way tie for first place in the ODAC after being picked to
finish in eighth place prior to the season. E&H fell
behind 14-0 at the 5:07 mark of the first half and had to play
catch up all afternoon. The Wasps only possessed the ball for
a total of 17:20 the entire game as only one of their 12 drives was
longer than 2:30. Emory & Henry had 327 yards of offense
despite being on defense for much of the game, led by quarterback
Kevin Saxton’s 203 yards through the air on 18-for-37
passing. Saxton finishes the season in the top five in
several categories with 238 completions (4th), 387 attempts (4th),
2,707 yards (2nd), 25 touchdowns (3rd), and 2,730 yards of total
offense (3rd). All are best marks by a freshman in program
history. Lucas Kirby caught five passes for 62 yards to
finish his career with 135 receptions and place fifth
all-time for the Wasps while Josh Smith’s four
receptions for 27 yards and a touchdown gave him 69 for the year,
good for second in the record book. Running back Isaiah
Rodgers had 47 yards on the ground and caught three passes for 30
yards while Chris Thompson ran for 32 yards and a score.
Running back Kasey Jones had 24 yards on four carries
including a two-yard TD run. The E&H defense spent
nearly 43 minutes of the game on the field, allowing Guilford to
gain 493 yards of total offense. The Wasps had trouble with
the Quakers’ accurate passing attack which converted 11-of-17
third down tries. Corner Tre’von Lightfoot scooped up a
fumble and returned it 71 yards for a touchdown to give the Wasps
their first score of the game. Safety Roth Healey led all
players with 18 stops, a forced fumble and a pass broken up.
Healey finishes the season with 10 takeaways, good for third
in the season records. Linebacker Paul Forney had 14 stops
while linebacker Rennel Marshall made 10 tackles, forced a fumble
and hurried the quarterback once. Corner Ryan Byrd made nine
stops and broke up two passes.
GUILFORD finished 8-2 for the sixth
time in school history following its 52-28 victory over Emory &
Henry. It's the first time they've notched an 8-2 mark since
1997. The Quakers' seniors were 2-8 as freshman, but finished
with an about-face to their careers. In the win over E&H,
the Quakers held the ball for 42:40, keeping E&H's offense off
the field. Quarterback Matt Pawlowski threw for 389 yards and
five touchdowns on 38-of-48 passing (79.2%), which marked the
eighth time he's thrown for 300 yards this season. He also ran for
43 yards. Pawlowski currently leads the ODAC in passing
yardage (3,476), passing touchdowns (38), yards per game (347.6)
and completions (250). He set GC records for passing TDs and
completion percentage (67.8%) in a season. Running back Josh
Schow ran for 30 yards against E&H, giving him a team-best 703
yards on the season. Against E&H, Austen Thompson caught
10 passes for 71 yards and three touchdowns. CJ Hobbs (8 for
108) and Chad Christopher (1 for 49) also caught TD strikes.
Adam Smith led the Guilford receivers in 2014 with 52 catches
for 1,072 yards and an ODAC-best 15 touchdowns. Defensively,
Satiir Stevenson led against E&H with nine tackles, while
Hunter Hoots had seven stops, a sack and a fumble recovery.
Jordan Farmer made just three tackles, but two were sacks
including a sack-fumble in the fourth quarter to help put the game
away. Jaylan Martin and Daytwyn Rascoe intercepted passes.
For the season, Hoots led GC with 101 tackles, second-best in
the conference. He also led GC with 4.5 sacks. JerMario
Gooch picked of six passes, tying atop the league ranks.
HAMPDEN-SYDNEY won its ninth overall and second
consecutive ODAC Championship despite falling 24-10 to
Randolph-Macon in the 2014 regular season finale. Hampden-Sydney
becomes the league's first back-to-back champion since 2005. The
Tigers were scoreless at the half, but Nash Nance and Joey Kernan
hooked up just before the end of the third to break the drought.
Max Antwerpes also hit a 35-yard field goal in the fourth. On the
day, Hampden-Sydney registered 250 yards of offense via 250 passing
and 79 rushing. Nance was 16-of-44 for 171 yards, one touchdown and
two interceptions. Michael Mey the team with 59 yards on four
catches. Owen Costello also had four catches for 17 yards. Holton
Walker had three catches for 39 yards. Brady Macko led the rushing
attack with 46 yards on eight carries. Defensively, the
Tigers allowed 470 yards on 276 rushing and 194 passing. Josh
Doggett led all tacklers with 14, including three for loss. Sidney
Henry and Freddie Potter each had eight tackles, and Nick Martin
added seven.

Hampden-Sydney will make the trip to Dover, Del., to square off
with Wesley College in the first round of the NCAA Division III
Tournament. Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m. The Tigers
and Wolverines have previously met five times, with WC holding a
4-1 advantage in the all-time series. Hampden-Sydney won the
first meeting between the two foes in 1991, posting a 50-49
triumph. Wesley has rattled off victories in the last four
contests, including their most recent showdown in the first round
of the NCAA postseason in 2007. In that contest, Wesley led
by as much as 35 points at 38-3 in the third quarter before a pair
of H-SC touchdowns cut it to 38-17 entering the final frame.
The Wolverines tacked on one more touchdown to post a 45-17
win. The winner of Saturday's contest will meet either Husson
University (8-1) or MIT (9-0) in the second round.
RANDOLPH-MACON put the caps to its season with a
24-10 win in the 120th edition of "The Game" over Hampden-Sydney.
The Yellow Jackets controlled the ball for 38:34, led by a
rushing attack that churned out 276 yards. John Byrd led all
runners with 146 yards and two touchdowns. Zac Naccarato ran
for 98 yards and score. He also threw for 194 yards on
13-of-23 passing. Mike Doe was responsible for 147 yards,
including a 67-yard over-the-shoulder catch and run to get R-MC out
from within its own five-yard line in the first quarter.
Defensively, R-MC held Hampden-Sydney to 250 yards of total
offense. Norman Cade led with six tackles, while Danny Hunt
and Deshaun Rogers intercepted passes. Tom Solak recorded a
sack. Ryan Burns broke up three passes. Following his
performance this season, Naccarato set the ODAC record for carere
passing completion percentage, posting a 65.8-percent mark on
542-of-824 threw the air. He's first on R-MC's passing yards
(7,186) and touchdowns (59) lists. He is second in pass
attempts (842) and completions (542). Byrd finished the
season with 1,162 yards, second in the ODAC and seventh-best in
Randolph-Macon history. His 10 rushing touchdowns are second
in the conference and sixth in R-MC history books. Doe racked
up 927 receiving yards, sixth-best in program history.
Linebacker Marcus Mitchell led the team with 63 total
tackles. Tom Solak tied for third in the ODAC with 5.0 sacks.
Burns intercepted two passes and broke up a team-high 10
attempts.
SHENANDOAH saw its season come to a close with a
40-23 loss to Washington and Lee. SU was limited to 26:06 of
possession due to W&L's rushing attack. Cedrick Delaney
led the Hornets with 65 yards on the ground, giving him an
ODAC-best 1,239 yards on the season. He also led the league
with a 123.9 yards per game average. Drew Fergson threw for
189 yards and three touchdowns. Two went to tight end Miles
Green (2 for 11), with the other going to Deshon Brown (2 for 28).
Brandon Addams led the receivers with six catches for 65
yards, one more yard than Qlyl Middelijn. Defensively,
Michael Messick racked up 16 takles and two TFLs. Micheal
Wroble made 10 stops, while Cedrick Bridges picked off a pass.
For the season, Messick leads the ODAC with 117 total
tackles. Jake Payne is second in the ODAC with 6.0 sacks.
Josh White tied for third with five interceptions in his
first collegiate season.
WASHINGTON AND LEE tallied 26 points in the fourth
quarter to post a 40-23 win over Shenandoah. The 26 points
are more than W&L scored for the entire game in five contests
this season. W&L ran for a season-high 460 yards in its
win over Shenandoah. The total is the seventh-highest in ODAC
history. W&L finished the season by rushing for better
than 400 yards and totaling more than 500 yards of total offense in
each of its last two games. The Generals finished with 521
yards of total offense against the Hornets. The Generals had
two runners eclipse 100 yards rushing for the first time since
three eclipsed the mark in a win over Emory & Henry last
season. Jimmy Dugan (143) did his damage on just six carries,
including a 57-yard touchdown run. Marshall Hollerith (122)
ran 22 times and scored three TDs. Evan Hinkle rank for 93
yards and two more scores. Defensively, Michael Shields
posted a team-high 11 tackles. He also forced and recovered a
fumble at the W&L one-yard to stop a Shenandoah score.
Will Dyson intercepted a pass, while Moody Heard (3) and
Christian Cranford (2) combined to break up five passes. For
the season, Hollerith led the team with 763 yards and nine
touchdowns on the ground. Quarterback Charlie Nelson racked
up 614 yards and five more TDs. Hinkle registered six
touchdowns via the rush. John Carrick led the Generals
defensively with 78 tackles. He and Dyson led with two
interceptions each. Patrick Wright posted the most sacks with
4.0.
