ODAC Football Play of the Week - Week 06: Guilford

Guilford running back De’Eric Bell has set or is on his way to setting multiple Guilford and conference records. He eclipsed a big one on Saturday despite the 63-34 loss at Randolph-Macon. Late in the third quarter, Bell ripped off this 78-yard burst thru the line after causing the edge defender to take a bad angle. He sprinted three-quarters of the field to the end zone. In the process, he became the Quakers all-time leading rusher, breaking the former mark of 3,486 yards established by Reggie Kenan from 1973-76. Bell enters next week’s contest with 3,520 rushing yards as he bears down on the ODAC top-five (#5 is 3,715 yards).

  • ODAC Football Play of the Week - Week 06: Bridgewater

    The Eagles may have dropped its ODAC contest with Washington and Lee, 30-20, but that didn’t keep Bridgewater from having some fun on a two-point conversion attempt. The Eagles ran their own version of the “Philly Special” following a third quarter score. Running back Demetreus Jalepes took a direct snap with quarterback Jay Scroggins walking over to the right side of the line. Jalepes pitched it to wide receiver Brendon Maturey – who happens to be a former BC quarterback -- and Maturey hit Scroggins in the right side of the end zone to complete the two-point try.

  • ODAC Football Play of the Week - Week 06: Randolph-Macon

    The signs came early – and often – that it was going to be a big offensive day for Randolph-Macon in the Yellow Jackets explosive 63-34 victory over Guilford on Saturday. On the fourth play of the game, running back Tre Frederick took advantage of some stellar blocking by the R-MC offensive line and darted thru a big hole on the left side. He sprinted 71 yards to pay dirt for the first of six first-half touchdowns and a lead that would grow to be 49-0 early in the third quarter. Frederick finished with 83 yards on just five carries helping R-MC to 294 yards on the ground.

  • ODAC Football Play of the Week - Week 06: Washington and Lee

    Washington and Lee’s defense not only did well in keeping Bridgewater off the board in the Generals 30-20 triumph on Saturday, but it also put points on the board. With just under 5:00 to play in the first half, Patrick Ryan extended W&L’s lead to 27-6 as he picked up a fumble by the BC tailback and returned the bounding ball to the end zone covering a total of 37 yards from scrimmage. Ryan’s score is the first fumble return for a touchdown by a W&L defender since October 7, 2006, just one day shy of 12 years.
