Saxton, a freshman from Monroe, N.C., burst on the scene to play
in big part in Emory & Henry's 41-12 thumping of Ferrum on
Saturday, marking the first win in the inaugural game of head coach
Curt Newsome's tenure. Saxton, a transfer from Appalachian
State University, went 17-for-28 for 329 yards and five touchdowns
in his first collegiate action. The five touchdowns tie for
the third-most in program history, joining the five throw by Kyle
Boden in 2013. Saxton completed passes to eight different
receivers, hooking up with them on six completions of 20 or more
yards. It was the first time E&H had started a freshman
quarterback since the 2008 season.
