Tanner Bernard, Hampden-Sydney, Sr., Quarterback

Bernard, a senior from Lynchburg, Va., continued the best stretch of play of his collegiate career with his second ODAC offensive weekly award of the season in leading Hampden-Sydney to a 44-43 overtime victory at Washington and Lee on Saturday afternoon. Bernard was responsible for four touchdowns on the day, but it was his final one that proved the difference. Combined with kicker Elijah Swett's extra point, Bernard's three-yard touchdown run to cap the Tigers' first and only overtime possession provided the winning margin. Bernard, who ran for 32 yards on 10 carries overall, threw for 313 yards and three touchdowns without an interception on 31-of-45 passing. He has thrown for more than 300 yards in all six games played this season. Each of his three TD passes either tied the score or game H-SC the lead in its back-and-forth affair with the Generals. He hit Austin Fernandez with a five-yard score to make it 7-7 early in the second quarter. He and David Byler connected for touchdowns twice. The first covered six yards for a 14-10 lead with 5:50 to go in the first half. The pair then hooked up a second six-yard scoring play for a 23-17 lead with 8:40 on the third quarter clock. For the season, Bernard leads the ODAC in most passing categories including completions (171), attempts (263), yards (2,200), yards per game (366.7), and touchdown passes (20). He is second in completion percentage (65.0%) and has thrown just three interceptions. He has also run for three touchdowns.
