VWC's Lott Leads ODAC Contingent in USTFCCCA Regional Awards

BC's Stevens and Flynn, RC's Blickle also Honored

NEW ORLEANS, La. --- Virginia Wesleyan College senior sprinter Randy Lott was named the South/Southeast Region Men's Athlete of the Year by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Wednesday, leading a list of four award winners from ODAC schools.  Bridgewater College head coach Shane Stevens was tabbed the region women's coach of the year, while BC assistant Brian Flynn earned men's assistant coach accolades.  Roanoke College mentor Carl Blickle garnered women's assistant coach honors.

Lott, a senior from Virginia Beach, Va., is ranked No. 11 in Division III at 60 meters and No. 14 at 200 meters. He won both events at the ODAC Championships, including the 200 meters in a meet record. He will compete at 60 and 200 meters at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships.

Stevens, in his 30th season as the architect of Bridgewater's track & field programs, enjoys his third women's top coaching honor. Stevens was last named the ODAC Coach of the Year in 2000 when he was named the Co-Coach of the Year with Lynchburg's Dr. Jack Toms. Last season, Stevens claimed the men's indoor COY.

Flynn’s distance runners scored 45.5 of 118 team points at the ODAC Championship. In addition, Flynn’s athletes earned seven All-Conference awards and won four ODAC titles with mile and 3,000-meter winner Luke Sohl earning Male Athlete of the Meet honors. Flynn is in his fourth year at Bridgewater and also serves as the Eagles' men's and women's cross country head coach.

At ODAC Championship, Blickle’s athletes scored 69 of the team’s 97 points guiding the Maroons to a second-place finish. Top performances at the championship by his athletes include four event titles. The Maroons enter the national meet with a 4x400-meter relay that broke the school and ODAC record with a 3:53.66. Bickle is in his fourth year at the school.
