Four Earn All-American Honors at NCAA Indoor Track Championships

GRINNELL, Iowa --- Four of the six athletes from ODAC member schools took home All-American honors at the 2016 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships over the weekend.  Bridgewater College sprinter Amber Celen, Eastern Mennonite University and Virginia Wesleyan College mid-distance runners Hannah Chappell-Dick and Marissa Coombs, and Washington and Lee University jumper Dana Lee each garnered honors following competition at the Bear Athletic Center at Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa.

Celen competed in both the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes, two events in which she owns ODAC overall and championship records.  She just missed out on qualifying for the finals in the 60-dash, crossing the line in 0:07.73.  Celen left no doubt about her inclusion in the 200-dash finals as she posted the preliminaries top-time with a new ODAC standard of 0:24.86.  She finished eighth in the finals heat, registering a time of 0:26.95 to earn All-American honors.

Chappell-Dick and Coombs made noise in the same event.  Both competitors took part in the mile run and placed inside the top-eight to secure All-America laurels.  Chappell-Dick chimed in fourth in the prelims at 5:00.23 and bettered that by establishing a new conference-record with a national runner-up time of 4:54.32.  This is the second straight season she has finished as runner-up, giving her four career All-American awards.  Coombs nearly matched each step in this season's race in becoming the first Marlin track & field athlete to secure All-American honors.  She stopped the watches sixth in the prelims at 5:00.45, and then set a new personal-best with a time of 4:56.45 to place seventh in the finals.

Lee became the first female athlete in Generals' history to secure multiple All-American honors at the NCAA indoor championships, adding this season's honor to her 2015 accolade.  Lee, who also earned All-America status in the 2014 outdoor long jump, finished eighth in this year's field, hitting the sand at 5.50 meters (18' 0.5") away from the jumping block.

BC's Kristen Trice and EMU's Jeremy Heizer also took to the Bear Athletic Center for the national competition.  Trice finished 13th in the pentathlon with 3,075 points. Her best showing in the five-event discipline came in the high jump where she placed fourth at 1.61 meters (5' 3.25").  In the remaining four events, Trice placed 13th in the long jump (4.92m), 14th in the shot put (8.62m), and 15th in the 60-meter hurdles (0:09.55) and 800-meter run (2:41.86).

Heizer, the lone ODAC men's participant, claimed 14th in the shot put competition.  Heaved the apparatus 15.38 meters (50' 5.5"), concluding an indoor season that saw him win ODAC titles in both the shot put and weight throw.
