RMC’s Vierheller Sets ODAC Men’s Lacrosse Career Saves Record

ASHLAND, Va. --- With 17 saves Saturday versus arch-rival Hampden-Sydney College in his final collegiate game, Randolph-Macon College's Brian Vierheller broke the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's lacrosse career saves record.

Vierheller (Forest Hill, MD/John Carroll) capped off his career with a total of 925 saves over his four seasons in the R-MC program.  Vierheller surpasses Dave Armellinni formerly of Lynchburg College who recorded 915 stops for the Hornets from 1981 to 1984.

The most prolific goal keeper in the history of the Randolph-Macon men's lacrosse program, Vierheller started 59 games in his four year career in Ashland. Over that time, he has earned All-ODAC honors in each of his first three seasons and was named the ODAC Rookie of the Year in 2004. He is also a member of the ODAC All-Academic Team.

"I firmly believe Brian's accomplishment to be a product of his determination, his God given abilities, and his undeniable work ethic," remarked RMC head coach Mike Plantholt.  "He is one of the smartest and most fundamentally sound goalies I have ever coached, and as good of a lacrosse player as he is, he is an even better person. As a three-year captain, I looked to Brian a lot this year to carry a big load for our team... he did that and more. One thing is for sure - over the course of his time at Randolph-Macon, he has contributed much more than saves to this institution. He is a leader in every sense of the word, and I couldn't be happier for him."
