Roanoke Joins Lynchburg in NCAA Men's Lacrosse Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- Lynchburg College will be joined by Roanoke College representatives of the ODAC in the NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Tournament, as announced by the NCAA on www.ncaa.com Sunday evening.  The Hornets will host a first round contest, while the Maroons will take to the road for their opening game.

The men's lacrosse tournament begins this week with all 32 teams in action in first round play on May 6.  First-round winners will move on to eight second round sites on the weekend, followed by third round play the next Wednesday (May 13).  The semifinals will be on Sunday, May 17, with the national championship slated for Sunday, May 24.  All games, except the final, will be played on the campuses of competing institutions.  The national championship is slated to be played at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pa.

There are no byes thru the first round in this season's tournament, leaving Lynchburg (17-2) as one of 16 first round hosts.  The Hornets earned their NCAA spot via the ODAC's automatic bid after winning the conference tournament.  LC opens its campus to Sewanee (11-3) in the first round.  The Tigers also received an automatic entry into the field after winning the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) title.

Roanoke (12-6) fell to Lynchburg in the ODAC title game on Sunday, but the Maroons body of work earned them one of six at-large bids onto the national stage.  RC will hit the road for its first round contest, taking on Salisbury University (15-4), winners of the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) championship.  The Sea Gulls were runners up in last season's national tournament.
