2015 Men's Tennis Players of the Week

  • Brandon Larsen, Bridgewater, Sr., No. 1 Singles, No. 1 Doubles

    Larsen, a senior from Woodbridge, Va., put together a 2-0 showing against Randolph-Macon to see the fourth seed for the Eagles in the ODAC Tournament. Larsen won 7-5, 6-4 at #1 singles, and then teamed with Thomas Rischcoff for an 8-6 triumph at #1 doubles. The Eagles quarterfinal matchup, also against R-MC, was delayed to Monday due to weather.
  • John Adam, Randolph-Macon, Jr., No. 3 Singles, No. 2 Doubles

    Adam, a junior from Vienna, Va., went 6-0 last week as he helped the Yellow Jackets to a 2-1 team showing with wins over Emory & Henry (8-1) and Lynchburg (9-0) and a loss to Roanoke (5-4). Adam went 3-0 at #3 singles, opening with a 6-2, 6-1 win over E&H. He followed with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over LC and then a 7-5, 6-3 victory against Roanoke. He and teammate Connor Hoerr added a trio of wins at #2 doubles. Then posted victories of 8-4, 8-2 and 8-3, respectively.
  • Ryan Byrd, Randolph-Macon, Sr., No. 1 Singles, No. 1 Doubles

    Byrd, a senior from Toano, Va., helped the Yellow Jackets to a pair of 9-0 victories against league foes last week. Byrd won 6-0, 6-1, at #1 singles against Hampden-Sydney, and followed that with a 6-4, 6-4, top flight victory over Randolph. He and Ira Usry went 2-0 at #1 doubles, picking up 8-5 and 8-6 wins, respectively.
  • Adam Rosemblaum, Virginia Wesleyan, Fr., No. 4 Singles, No. 1/2 Doubles
    April 06, 2015
    Rosemblaum, a freshman from Herzelya, Israel, went 5-0 last week to help the Marlins to a trio of team victories, including two against ODAC competition. In an 8-1 win over Randolph-Macon, Rosemblaum won 6-1, 6-1, at #4 singles and joined teammate Drew Tomajczyk for a 9-7 triumph at #2 doubles. He and Graham Wilson were victorious at #1 doubles, 8-0, in a 7-0 victory over Maryland-Eastern Shore. He and Wilson teammed up for a second 8-0 from the top doubles flight against Lynchburg, while Rosemblaum won 6-0, 6-0, at #4 singles to help VWC to a 9-0 win over the Hornets. He has now won his last six singles matches in straight sets and is on a five-matching doubles winning streak.
  • Turner Votipka, Guilford, Sr., No. 1 Singles, No. 1 Doubles

    Votipka, a senior from Nashville, N.C., went 6-0 last week as helped the regionally 14th-ranked Quakers to team wins over Hampden-Sydney (9-0) and Lynchburg (9-0) before a loss to #19 Virginia Wesleyan (5-4). Votipka posted a 3-0 mark at #1 singles and a 3-0 record with partner Erik Meiler at #1 doubles. He won 6-0, 6-4, in singles against H-SC, followed by a 6-0, 6-0, victory over Lynchburg's #1. He needed three sets to top Graham Wilson from VWC, 6-0, 3-6, 7-5. In doubles play, Votipka and Meiler won 8-1, 8-0 and 8-6.
  • Jordan Krasner, Washington and Lee, So., No. 1 Singles, No. 1/2 Doubles

    Krasner, a sophomore from Rockville, Md., helped the 36th-ranked Generals to a 3-1 week that included a pair of ODAC wins and a triumph over #38 Christopher Newport. Krasner went 2-0 at #1 singles and doubles, as well as 2-0 at #2 singles and doubles. He won 6-3, 6-4, at #1 singles against Bridgewater, and duplicated the effort against Hampden-Sydney, 6-0, 6-0. At #2 singles against CNU and Sewanee, Krasner won 3-6, 6-4, 6-2, and 6-3, 6-2. In doubles play, he and partner Will Bannister won 8-4 and 8-0 from the top flight against BC and H-SC. The duo won 8-3 and 9-7 at #2 doubles against CNU and Sewanee.
  • Turner Votipka, Guilford, Sr., No. 1 Singles, No. 1 Doubles

    Votipka, a senior from Nashnville, N.C., helped the Quakers to ODAC wins over Shenandoah and Bridgewater. In a 9-0 win over the Hornets, Votipka won 6-0, 6-1, at #1 singles. He joined Erik Meiler for an 8-3 win at #1 doubles. In a 6-3 triumph over Bridgewater, Votipka won 6-0, 6-0, over Brandon Larsen, the 24th-ranked player in the region. Votipka and Meiler lost, 8-3, at #1 doubles.
  • Jordan Krasner, Washington and Lee, So., No. 1 Singles, No. 1/2 Doubles

    Krasner, a sophomore from Rockville, Md., put together a perfect week in helping the Generals to five wins against ODAC competition. He went 5-0 at No. 1 singles and pulled the same trick with partner Will Bannister at No. 1 (2-0) and No. 2 (3-0) doubles. W&L posted wins over Shenandoah (7-0), Lynchburg (5-0), Virginia Wesleyan (5-1), Emory & Henry (5-0) and Guilford (9-0). Krasner won 6-0, 6-3 and 6-0, 6-0 in singles play against SU and LC, respectively. He and Bannister won 8-3 and 8-0, the latter from the top singles flight. Krasner topped VWC's singles player, 6-4, 6-1, and then lost just one game in winning vs. E&H, 6-0, 6-1. He and Bannister posted 8-2 and 8-1 triumphs. On the road at Guilford, Krasner won 6-1, 6-4 and 8-6, the latter from the top doubles position.
  • Turner Votipka, Guilford, Sr., No. 1 Singles, No. 1 Doubles

    Votipka, a senior from Nashville, N.C., put up the deciding point in Guilford's 5-4 win over Averett. The Quakers' top singles player won from the top flight, 3-6, 6-1, 10-5, over James Wright to secure GC's victory. In doubles play, he and Erik Meiler defeated Carlos Lora and Nic Quevedo, 8-4, at the #1 position.
  • Brendan Kelleher, Virginia Wesleyan, So., No. 5/6 Singles

    Kelleher, a sophmore from Baltimore, Md., posted a trio of singles wins in the Marlins three-match weekend. In VWC's 8-1 win over Chowan, Kelleher defeated Sasha Kirsanov, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 6 singles. He posted a 2-6, 6-4, 7-5 triumph at No. 5 singles over Michael Dodd, giving VWC it's only point against regionally 10th-ranked Christopher Newport. In a tough 5-4 loss to Franklin & Marshall, which is ranked 12th in the Atlantic South Region, Kelleher topped Evan Drapeau, 6-2, 6-2, from the sixth flight. Virgnia Wesleyan is currently ranked 17th in the South Region.
  • Steven Baker, Shenandoah, Fr., #1 Singles/#1 Doubles
    February 16, 2015
    Baker, a junior from Monkton, Md., helped the Hornets to a season-opening win over Hood College. SU's top-singles player won 6-1, 6-1 over Vladislav Sluchenkov at the top flight. He and teammate Jesse Ewing knocked off Sluchenkov and Alex Sexton, 8-3, in #1 doubles action.
