Five Earn All-American Honors at NCAA Track & Field Championships

CANTON, N.Y. --- Five athletes from ODAC member institutions took home All-American awards for their performances at the 2015 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships.  The conference was represented by 13 women and a pair of men in Canton, N.Y., at the three-day event hosted by St. Lawrence University.

Eastern Mennonite University junior Hannah Chappell-Dick collected her second All-American medal of the year, while Roanoke College's 4x400-meter relay team of Alease Kinney, Erin McGovern, Jessica Mejia and Alexis Janney sprinted their way to All-America recognition.

Roanoke sent the largest contingent to the Northeast with six female athletes donning Maroon jerseys.  RC's 4x400-meter relay team posted an ODAC-record time of 3:49.24 in its preliminary heat, good enough to finish seventh and qualify for the finals.  The Maroons' time was slower in the finals at 3:50.58, but finished second overall to stand near the top of the podium.  Roanoke also saw its 4x100-meter relay team of Esther Prempeh, Melanie Meadows, Kinney and Janney make the trip, with the quartet placing 11th at 0:47.64.

Kinney also competed solo in the 400-meter dash.  Her time of 0:57.10 placed 17th in the preliminaries.

Chappell-Dick was one of two Royals in the meet as she was joined by freshman Kat Lehman.  Chappell-Dick smashed her own ODAC and EMU records in the 1,500-meter run, stopping the watches third overall at 4:27.247.  She previously ran a 4:32.57 to place fifth in the prelims.  The USTFCCCA South/Southeast Region Outdoor Athlete of the Year received her first All-American award during the indoor campaign in the mile run.

Lehman took part in the 5,000-meter run.  The ODAC Indoor Track and Outdoor Track Rookie of the Year finished 19th in 17:49.95.  She also competed in the indoor national championships in the 3,000-meter run.

Bridgewater College and Washington and Lee University each sent a pair of women's competitors to Canton.  The Eagles were represented by Elizabeth Stump and Katelyn Senger.  Stump chimed in 20th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:17.31, while Senger did not record a throw towards a championship mark in the discus.  The Generals were represented by Janey Fugate and Dana Lee.  Fugate ran the second-fastest time of her career in the 400-meter hurdles, placing 11th in 1:02.32.  Lee took to the long jump competition for the fourth straight national meet (2014-15 indoors and outdoors combined).  Her best mark came in her first attempt as she placed 19th with a leap of 5.95 meters (19' 6.25").

Shenandoah Univeristy multi-athlete Jaclyn Mohlmann competed in the heptathlon for the second straight season.  She finished 12th overall with 4,540 total points, just 228 tallies shy of All-America position.  Her best showing came in the high jump, where she tied for fourth at 1.59m (5' 2.5").  She finished seventh in the 800-meter run (2:23.59), 11th in the javelin (32.45m; 106' 5.0"), 14th in the long jump (4.94m; 16' 2.5") and shot put (9.66m; 31' 8.5"), 15th in the 100-meter hurdles (15.31) and 19th in the 200-meter dash (27.55).

On the men's side, Bridgewater's Sam Gunther and Lynchburg College's Evan Truman completed the ODAC's contingent.  Gunther finished 17th in the 800-meter run in 1:53.78.  Truman chimed in 12th in the long jump with a leap of 7.08 meters (23' 2.75").  Earlier in the season, he became the first ODAC competitor to eclispe 25-feet in setting a new league mark.
