Landes, a senior from Staunton, Va., provisionally qualified for the 2011 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the javelin following her performance at the Lynchburg Track Classic. Landes fired the apparatus 39.45 meters (129'5") to win the event. Her throw is 20'6" farther than the next closest in the ODAC this season and is currently ranked as the 20th-best toss in NCAA Division III this season.
Women's Track Honor Roll
Olivia Mills, Bridgewater, Sophomore, Mid-Distance
Mills continued her assault on the Bridgewater record
books with a new mark Saturday at the Lynchburg College Track
Classic. Mills won the 1500 meters with a new BC record of 4:43.81,
nearly 17 seconds faster than the previous BC mark. Mills finished
first in a field of 24 runners and her winning time is the fastest
in the ODAC this season. The BC record was her fifth so far this
season. She set new indoor marks in the 800, mile and 3000 and now
owns outdoor marks in the 1500 and 5000.
Erica Garber, Eastern Mennonite, Freshman,
Jumps/Sprints
Garber continued her impressive rookie season
Saturday, winning the triple jump at the Lynchburg College Track
Classic. Her best jump measured at 10.78m (35'4.5"), gaining
her the gold ahead of Roanoke’s Carmen Graves at 10.55m
(34'7.5"). It was the third-best jump in the ODAC this
season. Garber also took 7th place in the 100m
dash, clocking at 13.67 in the finals.
Taylor Stokes, Guilford, Freshman, Distance
Stokes won the 5,000 meters at the Lynchburg Track Classic
in 18:28.79, the first individual title of any kind for a
Quakers’ women’s track and field performer… her
time is the second-fastest in the ODAC this season…
outkicked six other runners for the title, including two NCAA
Division I contestants and two NCAA Division II competitors.
Erin Nelson, Roanoke, Senior, Jumps
Nelson placed competed in both the high jump and triple
jump at the Lynchburg Track Classic. She cleared 1.57 meters
(5'1.75") to place second in the high jump. She finished
fourth in the triple jump with a three-bound mark of 10.48 meters
(34'4.75").
