  • Marlins Season Comes to Close with Regional Championship Loss

    Montclair State University's Red Hawks took advantage of an error in the top of the eighth inning Sunday to plate what turned out to be the winning run for in a 3-2 regional championship victory over Virginia Wesleyan College's Marlins. VWC finishes with a 41-8 record, the most wins for any sport in the Marlins athletic program.
  • Montclair St. Trips Up Virginia Wesleyan in Winners' Bracket Final

    Alex Hill (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany Hills) singled up the middle in the bottom of the seventh inning Saturday to send in the winning run as No. 1 seeded Montclair State University slipped past No. 3 seeded Virginia Wesleyan College 2-1 in the winner's bracket final of the NCAA's Montclair Regional in softball.
  • Roanoke Falls to Emory in Rain-Extended Contest

    The Roanoke College Softball team fell 8-1 to Emory University in the elimination game of the NCAA Div. III Regional Tournament at the Moyer Complex on Sunday. The Maroons finish the season 31-14 while the Eagles, ranked #4 in the NFCA Coaches' poll, improve to 40-4 and move on to the loser's bracket final against Piedmont.
  • Maroons Spring Back with Win Over Penn State-Altoona

    Roanoke College won 8-1 over Penn State-Altoona in the first elimination game of the 2013 NCAA Division III Softball Atlantic Regional Tournament. The Maroons now have a record of 31-13, while the Lady Lions exit the tournament with a record of 27-12. The Maroons advance to game 10 in the tournament, where they will face-off against Emory on Saturday.
  • Hornets Outlasted in Extra Innings by Neumann

    The Lynchburg College softball team finished off its first appearance in the NCAA Regionals since 2009 with an extra inning loss to Neumann University, 6-5.
  • Timely Hitting Lifts VWC to Second Straight Regional Win

    Timely hitting helped lift Virginia Wesleyan to its second straight NCAA regional softball victory with a 3-0 whitewashing of Susquehanna University on Friday in Montclair, N.J. The Marlins move on to face the host Red Hawks on Saturday in the winner's bracket final.

    Piedmont College (GA) defeated the Lynchburg College softball team 4-1 in the first game of the NCAA Division III Regional Tournament, hosted at the Moyer Sports Complex.
  • Maroons Fall to CNU in NCAA Regional Opener

    The Roanoke College softball team fell in game two of the 2013 NCAA Division III Softball Atlantic Regional Tournament on Thursday, 8-0 in five innings to Christopher Newport. The Maroons now sit with a record of 30-13, while the Captains move to the Friday, 2:00 PM game against Salisbury with a record of 33-11.
  • Marlins Tie Program Wins Record in NCAA Victory

    Virginia Wesleyan's first victory in NCAA softball regional competition was a historic one for the Marlins' program in several ways. Not only did Thursday's 2-0 win over Roger Williams University give VWC its first regional win in four tournament appearances, but it also tied the program record for victories at 39 originally set in 1986. That win total is also the highest in any sport at the College.
  • ODAC Represented by Three Schools in NCAA Softball Tournament

    The ODAC’s strong presence in spring NCAA tournaments continued on Monday morning as three league schools will take part in the NCAA Division III Softball Tournament. Virginia Wesleyan College, winner of the conference tournament, is joined by fellow regionally-ranked competitors in Lynchburg College and Roanoke College. This marks the first time the ODAC has seen three teams play for softball’s national crown.
  • VWC's Higginbotham, Creech Lead ODAC Softball Awards

    Virginia Wesleyan outfielder Tori Higginbotham and righty MacKenzie Creech headline the 2013 ODAC Softball All-Conference Awards as the Marlins' duo was named the ODAC Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively. Lynchburg mentor Dawn Simmons was tabbed the ODAC Coach of the Year, while Shenandoah outfielder Kimberly Brady picked up ODAC Rookie of the Year accolades. Roanoke first baseman Alea Bier received the ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete Award.
  • Virginia Wesleyan Outlasts Shenandoah to Win ODAC Softball Title

    Virginia Wesleyan designated player Lindsey Inzana clubbed a two-run homer in the top of the 19th inning to supply the winning runs and secure the 2013 ODAC Softball Tournament title with an 8-6 victory over Shenandoah on Monday at the Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Va. The win awards the Marlins (38-6) the conference’s automatic entry into the NCAA Division III Softball Tournament.
  • ODAC Softball Tournament Delayed Due To Weather

    The 2013 ODAC Softball Tournament has been delayed to due weather. Rain is forecast throughout the rest of the day in the Roanoke Valley up until the overnight hours. The scheduled championship between top-seeded Virginia Wesleyan and #6 Shenandoah is now slated for Monday, April 29, at the James I. Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Va. Game time is tentatively set at 12:00 p.m.
  • SECOND DAY RECAP: Va. Wesleyan to Meet Shenandoah for ODAC Title

    Virginia Wesleyan College will have two opportunities to claim its seventh conference softball crown as the Marlins have won each of their three games in the 2013 ODAC Softball Tournament, advancing them to the conference title game from the winner's bracket. Shenandoah University has a chance to capture its first overall league crown, but must win twice to do so after progressing through the loser's bracket.

Bridgewater College, Randolph-Macon College, Roanoke College and Shenandoah University all remain after a full day at the James I. Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Va.

    Virginia Wesleyan College (34-6 overall, 18-2 ODAC) enters the 2013 ODAC Softball Tournament as the top seed for the second consecutive year as the Marlins go in search of their seventh conference title. It took tiebreakers to determine who would serve as the home team for the other three first round games in the James I. Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Va.

  • Virginia Wesleyan Holds Down Top Spot in ODAC Softball Poll

    Just two points separate the first and second positions in the 2013 ODAC Softball Preseason Poll, as Virginia Wesleyan College secured the #1 rank with seven first place votes and 96 total points. Roanoke College sits second, having received the remaining four top nods and 94 tallies. Bridgewater College caps the top three with 82 points.
