2011-12 ODAC Swimmers of the Week

  • Lizzy Buckley, Randolph-Macon, Senior
    January 30, 2012
    Buckley, a senior from Springfield, Va., led the Yellow Jackets to a 157-103 victory over Catholic on senior day in Ashland. She picked up three wins on the afternoon to lead her team in her final home meet. She finished ahead of the pack in the 200-yard freestyle (1:58.67), the 200-yard butterfly (2:21.81) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.63). Buckley's time in the 200-yard free is the third-best in the ODAC this season, while her showing in the 100-yard fly is fourth amongst league competition.
  • Sarah Almond, Randolph-Macon, Senior

    Almond, a senior from Estes Park, Colo., finished first in the 50-yard (25.47), 100-yard (54.82) and 200-yard freestyle (2:01.44) events in a dual meat victory over Sweet Briar College (141-108). The 2011 ODAC Swimmer of the Year also teamed with Elizabeth Buckley, Kelsey Bagley-Hall, and Elizabeth Plowman and swam the anchor leg to win the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:44.48.
  • Jocelyn Cassada, Washington and Lee, Senior

    Cassada, a senior from Charlotte, N.C., won a pair of individual events and helped the Generals to a relay victory in a conference dual meet against Bridgewater College. In helping W&L to a 148-101 win, Cassada finished first in the 50-yard freestyle (28.93) and the 200-yard backstroke. She also swam a leg of the winning 200-yard medley relay, helping the Generals to a 2:07.21 first place time.
  • Meredith Hardy, Washington and Lee, Sophomore

    Hardy, a sophomore from Cary, N.C., helped lead Washington and Lee to a second place finish at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational over the weekend. Hardy set in a new ODAC seasonal top time in winning the 200-yard freestyle. She touched the wall in 1:56.04, eclipsing the previous ODAC high by more than four seconds. Hardy participated in five other events as she finished fourth in the 100-yard freestyle (56.40) and joined her teammates in four relays: 400-yard medley (2nd - 4:0306), 800-yard freestyle (2nd - 8:00.22), 400-yard freestyle (3rd - 3:39.87) and 200-yard freestyle (5th - 1:41.10).
  • Sarah Almond, Randolph-Macon, Senior

    Almond, a senior from Estes Park, Colo., secured 42 individual points in leading Randolph-Macon to the 2011 Yellow Jacket Invitational team title. Almond earned one event victory, placed second in two others, and participated in three second-place relays and one other that tied for first. She won the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.35) and added to her individual showing with second place finishes in the 50-yard free (25.20) and the 100-yard free (54.21). Almond and her teammates tied for first in the 200-yard free relay (1:41.56) and touched the walled seond in the 400-yard free (3:46.28), 800-yard free (8:31.81) and the 400-yard medley (4:19.33. relays.
  • Shannon Berry, Notre Dame of Maryland, Junior

    Berry, a junior from Pasadena, Md., picks up the first weekly honor for a Notre Dame of Maryland swimmer since the school joined the ODAC at the start of the 2011-12 season. Berry helped the Gators to a 67-55 win over St. Elizabeth as she won three individual events and helped NDMU to a win in the 200-yard medley relay (2:16.5). Individually, Berry won the 100-yard backstroke (1:07.4), 100-yard freestyle (1:02.5) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:10.2).
  • Shannon Myers, Bridgewater, Freshman
    November 07, 2011
    Myers, a freshman from Roanoke, Va., helped propel the Bridgewater Eagles swim team to a tri-meet sweep of Guilford and Greensboro. Myers set a new school record in the 100-yard butterfly and took first in the 100-yard backstroke (1:05.95) and 200-yard medley relay (2:05.4). In the 100 butterfly event, Myers set a new standard with a 1:05.62 en route to victory. Myers swam the butterfly leg of the medley relay and her performance helped make up ground and propelled the Eagles to victory.
  • Jocelyn Cassada, Washington and Lee, Senior

    Cassada, a senior from Charlotte, N.C., earns her second swimming weekly award of the early season. Cassada helped lead the Washington and Lee women's swimming team to a 147-89 victory over Transylvania on Saturday by winning one individual event and participating on two winning relay teams. She took the 50-yard freestyle by completing the event in 25.83. She also swam the lead leg on the winning 400 medley (4:12.40) and 200 free relay teams (1:43.52) as the Generals improved to 3-0 on the season.
  • Jocelyn Cassada, Washington and Lee, Senior

    Cassada, a senior from Charlotte, N.C., led the Generals during two meets over the weekend, finishing with seven first-place finishes and two second-place finishes. In a 162-100 win over Mary Washington on Friday night, she finished best in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.20), 100-yard freestyle (54.54), 200-yard medley relay (1:52.76) and 200-yard freestyle relay (1:41.71). The win over UMW was just the first in program history for the Generals. On Saturday, Cassada helped the Generals finish first out of nine teams at the ODAC Relays, held at Cy Twombly Pool. She swam as a part of the winning 3x50 backstroke relay (1:27.18), 200-yard medley relay (1:56.82) and 8x25 freestyle relay (1:30.28) teams. Additionally, Cassada swam on the second place 400-yard freestyle relay (3:47.19) and 200-yard freestyle relay (1:43.69) teams.
  • Lauren Kasoff, Washington and Lee, Sophomore

    Kasoff, a sophomore from Owings Mills, Md., started her second campaign with two individual event victories as Washington and Lee defeated Centre on Saturday at Cy Twombly Pool. She finished tops in both the 200-yard butterfly (2:16.40) and 200-yard IM (2:15.78) while taking fourth in the 100-yard fly with a time of 1:03.38. She also helped the ‘B’ 200-yard medley relay team to a second-place finish (1:57.59).
