2021-22 Women's Basketball Players of the Week

  • Whitney Hopson, Roanoke, Sr., Point Guard

    Hopson, a senior from Mechanicsburg, Va., helped Roanoke close out the regular season with wins over a pair of top-five teams in the ODAC standings as the Maroons locked up the third seed in the upcoming conference tournament. Hopson shot 59.1-percent (13-of-22) from the field and canned all nine of her foul shots over the two games. She opened with a career-high matching 28 points in an 84-66 victory at Washington and Lee. She was 8-of-12 from the field including 3-of-4 from deep and 9-of-9 at the line. She added seven rebounds, five assists, and two steals to her output totals. Hopson then went for 10 points with six boards in a 66-63 come-from-behind win over Randolph. She was 5-of-10 from the field while dishing out four assists to go with a pair of steals. For the season, Hopson leads the ODAC in assists-to-turnover ratio (1.9) and is second in assists (127) and steals (59). She is averaging 6.9 points and 4.4 rebounds per game.
  • Olivia Weinel, Shenandoah, Sr., Forward

    Weinel, a senior from Mount Airy, Md., picks up her second weekly award of the season after helping Shenandoah to a 3-1 week. She averaged 14.5 points and shot 49.0-percent from the field over the four outings. She opened with 10 points and four rebounds in a 74-43 non-conference win at Hood College. She was 4-of-9 from the field and canned both her foul shots. She also dished out a pair of assists. Weinel then notched a season-high 25 points on 11-of-17 shooting in a late 56-55 loss at Randolph-Macon. She added five rebounds to go with two assists and a blocked shot. Shenandoah rebounded with a 65-52 victory at Lynchburg. Weinel dropped in 12 points to go with a half-dozen rebounds, three assists, and a pair of blocked shots. She capped her week with 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting in a 70-50 triumph at Guilford. She went 3-of-3 from the stripe and chipped in a rebound and a steal. For the season, Weinel is averaged 12.4 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. She is second in the ODAC in field goals made (116-of-238), fifth in total points (273), and sixth in field goal shooting (.487). Shenandoah has won 10 of its last 11 games played.

    Weinel, a senior from Mount Airy, Md., helped Shenandoah collect three more ODAC victories last week to run the Hornets' winning streak to a season-high seven games and a tie for fourth place in the league table at 9-4 in conference play and 14-4 overall. Weinel was a consistent performer in all three contests beginning with 13 points in a 65-57 win over Lynchburg. She was 5-of-14 from the field and 3-of-4 from the stripe while adding four rebounds, an assist, two steals, and a blocked shot to her line. The 2021 ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year again scored 13 points, but this time in a 57-54 victory over Roanoke. She was 5-of-8 from the field and knocked down 3-of-4 from the foul line to go with four rebounds. Weinel was instrumental in the Hornets 52-47 overtime victory over Guilford to close the week. For the third time she notched 13 points and added seven rebounds, two steals, and a blocked shot. In the overtime period, she accounted for six of SU's 13 markers in the frame, including two free throws that put Shenandoah ahead for good with 1:31 to play. For the season, Weinel is averaging 11.9 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. She is sixth in the ODAC in field goals made (91-of-187) and eight in field goal shooting (48.7%).
  • Kate Kolb, Lynchburg, Sr., Forward

    Kolb, a senior from Morris Plains, N.J., helped Lynchburg to a 2-1 week against ODAC opponents by averaging 15.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per game while shooting 60.6-percent from the field over the three outings. Kolb, who has scored in double figures in seven of her last nine games, opened her week with 17 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the field in a 66-50 victory at Guilford. She was 5-of-7 from the line and added six rebounds with an assist. Kolb dropped in season-best 20 points in the Hornets 58-56 double-overtime setback at Bridgewater. She was 10-of-18 from the field and pulled down 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the year. She chipped in four steals defensively. Kolb capped her week with nine points and four blocked shots in a 71-70 last-second overtime triumph over Guilford, the Hornets second win of the week over the Quakers. She was 4-of-8 from the field and added three rebounds to her line. For the season, Kolb is averaging 10.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. She is third in the ODAC in field goal shooting (54.2% - 58-of-107), seventh in blocked shots (16), and eighth in free throw shooting (74.4% - 32-of-43).
  • Megan Horn, Washington and Lee, Sr., Guard

    Horn, a senior from Basking Ridge, N.J., picks up her third weekly award of the season after leading Washington and Lee to three ODAC victories last week. Two of those wins came home, increasing the Generals streak to 16 straight victories in Lexington. Horn averaged 17.3 points, 7.7 rebounds, 6.3 assists, 1.7 blocked shots, and 1.0 assists per contest over three outings. She opened with 15 points on 7-of-15 shooting in a 63-48 win over Randolph. She added seven rebounds and dished out five assists with one blocked shot. She crossed the 300-assist plateau against the WildCats, making her just one of four players in program history with that many helpers. Horn followed that contest with 23 points and eight rebounds in a 69-60 triumph at Bridgewater. She went 7-of-18 from the field with a 3-for-6 showing from beyond the arc. She also went 6-of-7 from the line. She chipped in five assists, two blocked shots, and a steal. Horn capped her by nearly collecting a triple-double in an 87-65 victory over Hollins. She went for 14 points with eight boards and nine assists to go with two steals and two blocked shots. For the season, Horn is averaging 14.4 points and 7.5 rebounds per game, both sixth in the ODAC. She is second in assists (63) and defensive rebounds (88), fifth in points scored (201) and blocked shots (14), sixth in total rebounds (105), and seventh in field goals made (70-of-190).
  • Kylie Stark, Randolph, So., Guard

    Stark, a sophomore from Lynchburg, Va., earns her first career ODAC weekly award after helping Randolph to a pair of conference wins to improve the WildCats to 4-0 in league play and 11-2 overall. The 11 wins are the most for any team in the ODAC so far this season. Stark, the 2020-21 ODAC Rookie of the Year, averaged 26.0 points and 7.5 rebounds while shooting 48.6-percent from the field over the two outings. She opened with 23 points and seven rebounds in a 76-45 triumph over Shenandoah University. She was 7-of-18 from the field with a trio of made three-pointers and went 6-of-8 from the foul line. She added two assists and two steals to her line. Stark then poured in a career-best 29 points on 10-of-17 shooting in the WildCats 65-47 win at Virginia Wesleyan. The victory marked the program's first win over VWU since 2016 and their first triumph in the Batten Center since 2004. Stark again made three long jumpers from downtown and went 6-of-10 from the stripe. She chipped in eight rebounds, two assists, two steals, and a blocked shot. For the season, Stark is sixth in the ODAC in scoring (14.3) and total points scored (172). She is second in steals (34) and defensive rebounds (72), eight in field goals made (59-of-151) and total rebounds (85), ninth in three-pointers made (19-of-62) and free throw shooting (74.5% - 35-of-47), and 10th in rebounding (7.1).
  • Lindsay Gauldin, Guilford, Sr., Guard

    Gauldin, a senior from Stokesdale, N.C., led Guilford to its first ODAC win of the season in their 2022 opener against Eastern Mennonite. Gauldin went 6-of-14 from the field and made seven foul shots on the way to 20 points in the Quakers 67-62 triumph in Ragan-Brown Fieldhouse. She stuffed the stat sheet with nine rebounds -- including three via the offensive glass -- along with five assists and four steals. For the season, Gauldin is leading the ODAC in scoring (21.3 ppg) and free throws made (51-of-67). She is sixth in total points scored (149) and ninth in free throw shooting (76.1%). She is averaging 5.7 boards per contest as well.
  • Megan Horn, Washington and Lee, Sr., Guard

    Horn, a senior from Basking Ridge, N.J., opens the 2022 calendar year with her second ODAC weekly award of the season after leading Washington and Lee to an 86-45 win over Lake Forest College in the Generals second game of the St. Pete Classic at Eckerd College just before the holiday break. The victory marked W&L's fifth win in six outings. Horn came up just two assists shy of a triple double in defeating the Foresters. She was 5-of-10 from the field with a pair of made three-pointers to go with 4-of-5 from the foul line for a game-high 16 points. She also led all players with 10 rebounds, eight assists, and four steals. She tied season-highs with the first two totals and marked a schedule-best in steals. The eight assists moved her into fourth position on the W&L career charts (283). For the season, Horn is averaging 14.4 points and 7.2 rebounds, which rank fifth and seventh in the ODAC, respectively. She is sixth in defensive boards (54), eighth in total points scored (130), and ninth in assists (30) and total rebounds (65).
  • Olivia Harris, Lynchburg, Fy., Guard
    December 20, 2021
    Harris, a first-year from Salem, Va., was nearly perfect in the Hornets lone game last week as Lynchburg took down Meredith College, 69-47, on Monday. Harris was 7-of-7 from the field including 2-of-2 from deep on the way to a season-high 16 points off the bench. She added four steals, two assists, and a rebound to her stat line. For the season, Harris is averaging 9.7 points per game. She is sixth in the ODAC in three-point shooting at 39.3-percent (11-of-28).
  • Renee Alquiza, Roanoke, Sr., Guard/Forward
    December 13, 2021
    Alquiza, a senior from Cornelius, N.C., helped lead Roanoke to a pair of ODAC victories prior to the Maroons taking a two-week hiatus before returning to action just before the New Year. Alquiza registered 14 points with a trio of three-pointers made in an 80-69 home win over Shenandoah. She was 3-for-4 from the foul line and chipped in three rebounds and two assists. Alquiza then posted a game-high 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field in a 69-58 win at Lynchburg in a rematch of the ODAC title game last spring. She again hit a trio from downtown and added three boards and an assist. For the season, Alquiza is averaging 11.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. She is second in the conference in three-point shooting (47.1% at 16-of-34).
  • Kayla Cabiness, Ferrum, Jr., Guard
    December 06, 2021
    Cabiness, a junior from Martinsville, Va., helped Ferrum to a 1-1 win against ODAC opponents by averaging 26.0 points, 5.0 assists, and 4.0 rebounds per game while shooting 17-of-30 (.567) from the field, 8-of-16 (.500) from deep, and 10-of-11 (.909) from the line. Cabiness opened with a career-high 29 points in an 87-65 loss at Lynchburg. She was 10-of-18 from the field including 5-of-9 from downtown with a 4-for-5 showing from the charity stripe. She added three boards, two assists, and two steals to her line. Over the weekend, Cabiness poured in 23 points with five rebounds and eight assists in a 76-64 victory over Virginia Wesleyan. She was 7-of-12 from the field with three made three-pointers and a 6-of-6 outing at the foul line. She also posted two steals. For the season, Cabiness is averaging 13. points per game. She doubled her total from the previous six games to improve to fifth in the conference in total points scored with 104.

    Horn, a senior from Basking Ridge, N.J., earns her first weekly award of the season after leading Washington and Lee to a 73-68 victory over previously unbeaten Mary Washington on Tuesday. Horn dropped in 17 points with six on 6-of-16 shooting and 4-of-5 from the foul line. She added seven rebounds to go with three assists, two steals, and a blocked shot in 33 minutes on the floor. The victory extended the Generals' program-record home winning streak to 12 straight games. For the season, Horn is seventh in the ODAC at 14.2 points per game while averaging 6.4 rebounds per contest.
  • Jessica Jennings, Virginia Wesleyan, Jr., Guard
    November 22, 2021
    Jennings, a junior from Suffolk, Va., was named the MVP of the TownBanke Tip-Off Tournament hosted by Virginia Wesleyan after she helped the Marlins get off the mark for their first two victories of the season. Jennings averaged 18 points and 5.7 rebounds while dishing out 15 assists with six steals in a 2-1 overall showing for the week. She opened with 16 points on 6-of-10 from the field in a 77-54 loss to Bridgewater in the first ODAC contests of the season. She was 2-of-5 from three-point range and added four rebounds and three assists. Against N.C. Wesleyan in the Marlins first game of the TowneBank Tip-Off Tournament, Jennings provided the winning three-pointer as the buzzer sounded for a 65-62 victory. She isolated her defender at the top of the key off an in-bounds play and drilled the game-deciding bucket from well-behind the line as the red lights flashed on the backboard. She was 7-of-12 from the field including 5-of-8 from deep. She added nine rebounds, five assists, and three steals to her stat line. Jennings capped her week with 17 points in a 63-60 overtime win against Meredith. She made up for a 3-for-13 shooting day with a 10-of-13 showing at the foul line. She added four rebounds, seven assists, three steals, and a blocked shot. Through the first five games of the season, Jennings is averaging 15.8 points and 4.4 rebounds her outing. She is second in the ODAC in three-pointers made (14-of-34) and third in assists (20). Her 79 points scored rank fourth in the league.
  • Unoma Aguolu, Hollins, So., Guard

    Aguolu, a sophomore from King George, Va., led Hollins to a 3-0 week that has the Green & Gold off to a 3-1 start, its best opening slate of games in over a decade. Aguolu averaged 23.0 points and shot 56.3-percent from the field to with 5.0 rebounds per game over the three contests. She began the week with 20 points to go with three rebounds, two steals, and two blocked shots in a 74-65 triumph over Virginia-Lynchburg. In the first game of the Agnes Scott Tip-Off Classic, Aguolu poured in 26 points on 10-of-13 from the field in an 82-49 win over the host Scotties. She added seven rebounds (5 offensive), two assists, and two steals. She capped the tournament and her week with 23 points on 8-of-15 shooting in a 76-71 victory over Sewanee. She chipped in five rebounds with an assist, steal, and blocked shot. Over Hollins first four games, Aguolu is averaging 20.8 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. She has scored the most points (83) so far in the ODAC powered by the most field goals (30-of-55) and free throws (19-of-40) made.
  • Brii Redfearn, Eastern Mennonite, Fy., Guard

    Redfearn, a first-year from Fairfax, Va., had a strong to her collegiate career as she helped Eastern Mennonite open the season with a 76-44 victory at Apprentice School. Redfearn posted a double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds that included five boards via the offensive glass. She was 7-of-16 from the field and canned 5-of-6 from the foul line. Redfearn handed out three assists and also made a difference defensively with five steals and a blocked shot.
